Description

F. ROTTI.
WINDOW FLOWER STAND.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 3.1915.
WITNESSES: l/VI/E/VTOR ATTORNEY.
THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH 110.. WASHINGTON, D- C FREDERICK ROTTI, OF ELIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
WINDOW FLOWER-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent. t t M 2 5,
Application filed July 3, 1915. Serial N 0. 37,820.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, FREDERICK ROTTI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elizabeth, county of Union, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Window Flower- Stands, of which the following is'a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates'to certain new anduseful improvements relative to window flower stands and has for its Object to pro-' vide one which may be readily attached or detached from the window and can be folded into a compact form so as to requirelittle space when stored away.
Another object of the invention is to provide a window flower stand which may be adjusted to varying lengths to suit windows of different widths.
Another object is to provide a window flower stand which may be adjusted outwardly, with respect to the window, so as to make the stand .Wide or narrow accord ing to the requirements of flower pots and flower boxes.
It is a known fact that window stands heretofore used have been made up at the factory in standard widths and any window between or above these widths required a special order, which always entailed not only a delay in the customer receiving his desired stand but also an additional expense. This objection is overcome by the use of my stand which may be adjusted to a.
plurality of different widths and will aocomplish the desired result when either in its minimum or maximum widths.
To these ends the invention consists in the features hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.
The various features of the invention will be readily understood from an inspection of the accompanying drawings and the following detailed description of the device illustrated therein.
Like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the several views.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the stand showing it applied to a window opening, Fig. 2 is a cross section of Fig. 1, Fig. 3. is a cross section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1 showlng the manner in which the parts are securely held in any desired adjustment, Fig. 4 is a sectional View on line 47-4 in Fig. 3.
Reference character A designates a window 5111 of ordinary construction to which the supportlng member may be secured. Th1s support is made adjustable by having a channel bar 1 with a row, of threadedholes 1 in which a solid bar 3 is fastened and which bar is rigidly secured to the sill A by suitable fastening meansas shown at 2. Solid bar 3 is heldby means of a wingscrew 4 1n the channel bar 1 as shown in Fig. 3. Arranged beneath this support and.
secured to the outer end thereof, a suitable brace 6 extends downwardly and inwardly therefrom and is attached to thewall by any desired means as shown at 7. The upper. end of said brace 6v fits-into channel bar 1 and is fastened by a wing-screw 5 to the channel bar 1. The brace 6 as shown in Fig. 3 could be so adjusted as to fit any wall thickness by simply sliding the brace into the required position, remove the wingscrew 5, and insert the same intothe threaded hole 1', and fasten the same.
A member 8 is riveted at the outer end to the channel bar 1 and extends upwardly, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.. Pivotally secured to 8 through the opening 9 is an extensible member 10 which consists of a plurality of crossed bars pivoted at their intersecting points and also piyotally connected together at each end to the adjacent bar thereby constituting a lazy tong construction. This member 10 forms the vertical wall of the window flower stand and can be adjusted to any desired width. At the ends of the member 10 are two vertical rods 11-12 which are pivotally secured to the upper and lower endof the said member by me ns of a pin and slot connection and slidably connected thereto at the upper and lower end by means of a Din and slot connection 13 and 14. Adjustable rods 15 and 16 are secured to each vertical rod inter"- mediate its ends and is adapted to be attached to the window frame B at its opposite end thereby sustaining the frame in its upright position. From this construction it will follow that when the rod 16 is mounted on the window frame the extensible member may be adjusted without any further adjustment of the rod 16. The rods 15 and 16 are securely held in any desired adjusted position by means of screws 17 which can be set in any of the threaded holes 18 to allow adjustment.
When the window flower stand as abovedescribed has been applied to a window all that will be necessary to complete the same is a board 6, which will be laid across the support as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
It will of course be understood that while the preferred embodiment of the invention has been described herein, departures therefrom as to detailed constructions may beresorted to without departing from the spirit cured at one end to a window sill, a plate on said supports, an extensible member secured to said supports, said extensible member comprising bars pivoted together,'and end'bars'having adjusting slots at each end adjustably connected with certain of said bars, and longitudinally adjustable brace members connected to the respective end bars Copies of this patent mey be obtained for five cents each, by addressingthe ffGommissioner of Patents;
and adapted to be secured to the window sill. I
2. A window flower stand "comprisinglan adjustable support secured to the window:
sill, a board on said support, said support having an end portionzextending in a vertical direction, an extensible member secured to said end portion -an. adjustable. member: having connection with theextenslble mem-,
ber adjacent each end thereof and adapted to be secured to the window frame thereby sustaining the extensible member in proper position. 7
3. A window flower stand comprising-a channel bar, a rod adjustably secured therein and adapted to be secured at one end to a window sill, a brace secured to the outer end of said bar, a plate mountedonthe channel bar, an extensible member having; connection with said bar and means for sus,-: taining' said member in an upright position Intestimony whereof I affix my signaturein presence'of two witnesses.
