Be it known that we, BURT A. MONTGOM- nnr, SIDNEY SMITH, and Enwann Von GUN- inN, citizens of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State or' Ohio, have invented certain new and user'nl Improvements in Window- Screens: and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and` exact description ot' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in window screens and more particularly to those of the class which are connected to the window sash to open and close therewith.
rl'he object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed'and efficient screen of this character which will automatically wind up on .the closing of the window and may be readily connected or disconnected from the sash.
Another object is to so construct a screen of this character that it mty be engaged and Supported by its inclosing casing when disengaged from the sash ready for connection with the sash when desired.
1i.Vith the above and othervobjects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement ol parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Fig. ai is a similar view of the bottom plate of the screen inclosing casing; Fig. 5 is a similar view ot the casing cover; Fig. 6 is a similar view of the means which is carried by the upper end of the screen lor connectingl it either with the window sash or with its casing; Fig. 7 is a similar view ot the screen attaching member carried b v the window sash.
1n the embodiment illustrated, a window frame F ot ordinary construction is shown having secured to the inner faces of the opposite side members thereoi` screen guides 1 and Q which are similar in construction and hence one only will be described in detail.
Each ofthese guides is here hown formed from a single plate of metal folded longitudinally upon itself intermediately ot' its width to form a laterally projecting rib 3 and which is provided on one edge with a flange i spaced from and arranged pa 1allel with the rib to form a groove 5 to receive and lguide the screen proper to be described. At tie other side of the rib 3 the plate extends at r d it angles to said rib and is apertured at longitudinally spaced intervals to provide an attaching flange 7 tor connecting it to the frame. An extension 6 is Jformed on the lower end of each guide and is in the form of a continuation of the flange Ll and the spacer el which is arranged between said flange and the rib 3. This extension G is designed to form a stop for the screen to he described should it become accidentally7 disengaged from its casing or the sash and thus prevent said screen from swinging out ot the window. lt is of course understood that one of these stops is provided at each side of the window frame as is shown clearly in Fig. 1.
Secured to the window sill S is a screen casing here shown constructed of a base plate 8 which extends across the entire width ofthe window and is provided at its opposite ends with upstanding bearing plates 9 which are designed to receive the pintles of the screen roller 10, said roller being in the form of an ordinary window shade roller having a round pintle at one end for engaging a round aperture 11 in one bearing' memberv and a square pintle at the opposite end,

The combination with a Window frame,` a casing secured to the window sill inside the frame, a springroller mounted in said casing, a screen fabric attached at one end to said roller, said casing for the passage of the free end of said .screen and provided with an upstanding flange arranged adjacent said opening, a reinforcing strip clamped to the free end of said screen fabric and. having dowl'iturned hook like flangesl onopposite sidesthereof, one of saidflanges being positioned to engage the upstanding flange on said 'casing'when the screen is in one position,v and a sash movhaving an offset lip for engagement by the other hook-shaped flange of said reinforcing screen strip when the screen is in another position.'4
