H. H. SCHROYER.
SASH STOP 0R PARTING BEAD.
APPLICATION FILED MAR.12, 191s.
1,126,884. Patented Feb. 2, 1915.
-Fn/ Elglm W50/7127 e UNITED STATES PATENT oEEIcEt HARRY H. SCHROYER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE CME SUPPLY COMPANY` A CORPORATION ILLINOIS.
SASH-STOP OR PARTING-BEAD.
Application led March 12, 1913.
T 0 all y1li/10m t may Concern lie it known that I, HARRY H. SCHROYER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of'4 Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sashotops or Parting-Beads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the numbers of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Heretofore in car window construction, the attachment of curtains for the window, has necessitated the addition of a number of small parts, which is undesirable in some respects and tends to increase the complication of the construction.
It is an object' of this invention to provide a device affording a curtain guide which is an integral part of the window' construction.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a device in which the curtain guide or stop is readily removable from the window.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a. device which is resiliently and removably engaged to the window post and serves not only7 as a curtain guide, but also as a stop for the inner sash of the window.
" It is furthern'iore an object of this invention to provide an integral window stop and curtain guide, which is detachably connected to the window post of the car.
It is finallb7 an object of this invention to provide a cheap, simple and durable device of such simplicity as to enable one, not previously skilled in the art,7 to readily attach or detach the same.
The invention (in a preferred form) consists in the matters hereinafter more fully described and defined.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary interior view, of a car the windows of which are equipped with a device embodym ing the principles of my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse horizontal section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is an enlarged end elevation showing in detail the resiliently removable member affording the sash stop and curtain guide.
As shown in the drawings: The window post of the car for conventional illustration is shown as constructed of a T bar l, having Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 753,765.
secured to the leg thereof' outwardly extend.- ing Z bars 2, and secured on the fianges of said T bar, are inner and outer channels 3 and Llf, respectively, of unequal width, adapted to receive therebetween 'the extremities of the jamb and cheek plate 5. As shown, said cheek plate 5, is extended around to afford the end and side walls of the window post, and said side walls are recessed on each side thereof as designated by the reference numerals 6 and 7, to receive therein inner and outer window stops 8 and 9, respectively.
As shown in Fig. 2, said Z bars 2, are fixed by spot welding or any other suitable means, to the inner walls of said recesses 6, as reinforcement for the window post. An outer channel or face plate 4, is provided with laterally extending flanges 10, adapted to afford an outer Weather stop for outer sliding sash ll. For this purpose, the Stiles of said sash 1l, are suitably recessed, and engaged therein is a. small T bar strip of metal 12, one flange thereof projecting over a portion of the recess for the reception of said flange 10.
The inner sash is designated by the reference numeral 13, and is slidable between the stops 8 and 9. As shown in Fig. 3, said inner stcp is provided with resilient angled webs 14.-, shaped to conform to the convergence of the side wall of the recesses 6. The outer face of said stop 8, is suitably stamped or formed near one edge thereof to afford the groove A, adapted to receive the curtain stop 15, of the curtain 16, therein.
The operation is as follows: The stop 8, is shown as constructed from a single strip of' sheet metal, and formed to afford the groove A, and the resilient .engaging webs 14. The stop and curtain guide 8, due to its readily detachable nature, may be either placed in position in the window frame either before or after the curtain is hung, depending on which is the more convenient.
I am aware that details of the construction are open to Wide variation. I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I do not claim'herein broadly the general construction of the window post, as shown, as the same forms the subject-matter of' Letters Patent No. 1,097,677, granted to me May 26,1914, on an application filed of Patented Feb. 2, 1915. n
even date with this application. Nor clo I claim herein broadly the construction of the removable sash stops, as shown, as the same forms the subject-matter of a separate application, No. 753,763, filed of even date with this application.
I claim as my invention: ,A channel-shaped metallic sash stop for windows, formed with resilient angled Webs adapted to engage a corresponding recess in the Window janib, the outer face of said stop being grooved longitudinally thereof to serve as a curtain guide.
In testimony whereof l have hereunto subscribed my naine in the presence of two 15 subscribing Witnesses.
HARRY H. SCHROYER. Vitnesses:
CHARLES W. HILLS, Jr., LEON M. REIBSTEIN.
