Description

UNITED STATEs PATENT OEEICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTH-BEAMS FOR LOOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,630, dated August l, 1871.
tains to make and use the same, reference being `had to the accompanying Adrawing making part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a perspective view of a roll with the hinged tongue turned up 5 while Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same With the hinged tongue turned down, with the cloth secured in position.
This invention relates to an improvement in the loose rolls of looms; and consists in forming a groove or slot in said roll, into which a hinged tongue fits so as to hold the edge of the cloth firmly in position while winding the cloth, and, at the same time, permits the roll of cloth to be readily removed from the roll, as will hereinafter be more fully7 set forth.
In the drawing, A is the roll; B, the hinged tongue 5 C, a cavity or groove formed in the roll., while l) represents the cloth or other material secured upon the roll preparatory to winding. The roll is of the ordinary construction, with the eX- ception that it is formed with the groove C, into which a tongue is hinged at one end ofthe groove, and, when turned down, is flush with the surface or periphery of the roll. The groove extends longitudinally only a short distance of the roller, and
when the cloth is placed over the groove the hinged tongue is forced down and retains the material in position and prevents the cloth from slipping while the roll revolves.
The roller readily allows the cloth which accumulates on the roller to slip off endwise, when it becomes necessary to remove the same from the roller, in a compact cylinder, convenient for balin g and transportation, without labor and trouble to the weaver and delay to the loom, thus saving bothtime an dlabor which would berequired to unwin d or unroll the cloth and wind or fold it again. Thus it will be seen that the cloth is removed by sliding it off from the roll and drawing it from under the hinged tongue.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The longitudinal slot or groove formed in the roller A, with the hinged tongue B, the whole heing constructed and arranged to operate as herein shown and described.
