Be it known that 1, ARTHUR M. Housnn, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in A7mm-Closets, of which the following is a specification, reference being` had to the accompanying drawing. f
My invention relates generally to new and useful improvements in water closets, and has for its principal objects the provision of improved means whereby a wall closet bowl may be rigidly and adjustably supported on a drainage fitting independently1 of anjr positioni'ng of the mail soil pipe:l and the pro vision of an adjustable connection between the bowl and the drainage fittingwhich is adapted to have a tight and yet flexible joint with the bowl outlet and which is` further designed to prevent fracture vof bowl. parts when the bowl is subjected to strain.
These, together with such objects as may hereinafter appear, or are incident to my invention, attain by means of a construe tion illustrated in preferred form in the accompanyingY drawings, wherein:

I am aware that it is old iu the art to transmit the thrust of a wall closet bowl through the medium of ay Collar to the soil pipe, but my invention is designed to provide means which elfectually takes. this thrust indej'iendentl)Y of any positioning of the soil pipe, together with an adjustable compression member interposed between the discharge end of the lbowl and the soil pipe inlet, and having a Flexible connertion with the former to insure a tight joint therebetween uncler the most unfavorable conditions, and which is furtherdesigned to pre Specification of Letter-s Patent.

In disclosing my invention, the numeral G indicates the wall closet bowl which is adapted to be positioned against the front face of the partition 7, and is shown provided with a. suitable liushing connection as at 8. The bowl G has a discharge outlet 9 terminatin` at a boss GL1 formed on the rear faceof the bowl which latter is further provide with the bossed flange 10 adapted to tit around the large opening 7a in the partition as clearly shown in Figuresl and 3.
The soil pipe to the rear of the partition 7 is represented by the numeral 11 and interposed is alaterally disposed drainage fitting or L 12, providing an inlet opening 13 leading to the soil pipe 11, and u-'hichhas an integrally formed socket 14 interiorly threaded to receive the externally7 threaded rear portion of a nipple l5 whose forward end 15'qu is adapted to be in register with the bowl discharge outlet 9.
Surrmindingr the said discharge outlet, and formed in the boss 6a in the rear face of the bowl, is an annular recess 16 constitilting' a seat of 'sufficient depth to receive therein an annular gasket 17 against which the trout end l5 of the nipple is designed to take in order to obtain a tight and at the saine a flexible tongue and `groove joint between the nipple and the discharge end of the bowl, as indicated at 17a in Figure 3.
For thc purpose ot affording a support to the bowl, I provide a yoke 18 which is screwed onto the lateral socket 14 whose outer periphery is threaded to receive it. The web of the yoke is of sulicient width in cross-section to afford the requisite degree of strength and rigidity, and extends outwardly away from its threaded bore 19 to forni the side web portions 20, and depends downwardly and centrally therefrom to terminate below the boreat its lower extremity 21.
The bowl is supported from the yoke by what l term a three-point suspension, and to this end the side portions :'20 of the yoke have threaded openings at 20a to receive the threaded ends of the two bolts 22 which eX- tend forwardly at each side of the median line of the nipple, and the lower web portion 2l is likewise provided with a bolt hole 21a for a similar bolt 23, which together with the bolts 22 extend beyondand through the opening 7a in the partition to pass loosely through bolt punchiugs provided in the bowl Hangs 10. v
When in position against the partition 7, the flange of the bowl surrounds and incloses the opening 7, with the threaded forward ends of the bolts projecting through the'v bolt punchings. Nuts 22 and 22h are carried on the threaded forward ends of the kbolts 22, adapted to bear respectively against the front and rear faces of the bowl flange '10, and similarly the bolt 23 is provided with the nuts 23"* and 23'.
Accurate and true positioning of the bowl with respect to the partition is easily at- T tained through the range of adjustability ai'orded by these nuts on their respective bolts, any tendency ot' the latter to turn inv the yoke being prevented by the lock nuts 24. `With the parts now assembled in this position, the nipple may be turned in the socket to advance it centrally under compression against the gasket 17 to obtain the desired tongue and groove connection and thereby insure a tight and yet flexible joint. `Whenthe parts are thus brought into their desired position the lock nut Q5 is tightened to lock the yoke and nipple in position and to compress the packing 26 thereby obtaining a tight joint between the nipple l5 and the lateral inlet of the drainage fitting.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that inasmuch as the bolts 22 are under tension and the bolt 23 is under compression, the thrust on the latter is translated directly to the yoke which is arched forwardly at 18 and provided with the integrally formed ribs 18* to better take the thrust from the bowl. The flexible compression joint between the nipple and the rear face of the bowl eli'ectually prevents fracture of the bowl proper when the la`` issubjected to a severe strain, and is des lto insure a tight joint under the most arable conditions.

which after correct adjustment connect thea: bowl rigid to the drainage L, thereby effectually preventing movement of the bowl in any manner. Other advantages will be perceived by those skilled in the art.
Having thus described my invention, and illustrated its use what I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is the following i* 1. In combination, a bowl having a discharge outlet nl its rear face, a laterally disposed L forming the discharge inlet leading to the drainage piping, a supporting member carried at the rear of a partition and archingforwardly toward the bowla connection between the outlet and the inlet, and connections between the supporting member and the bowl comprising tension and compression members provided with means adapted to adjust the position of the bowl, the thrust of the bowl being wholly taken by the said arched supporting member, substantially as described.
2. In combination, a bowl provided with an outlet opening, piping including a laterally disposed L having an inlet opening, a
connection extending between the outlet and the. inlet openings and capable of adjustment v therebetween, means to supportthe bowl from the piping including an adjustable supporting member mounted on the laterally disposed L, and a locking member carried by the said connection whereby it is locked when in adjusted position;l
3. In combination, a'tbow having an outlet in its rear face, a laterally disposed inlet pipe leading to the drainage line, and provided with a threaded Socket portion, a connection between the bowl outlet and the inlet pipe including a vshort pipe section having one end adjustably received in the inlet pipe and capable of being caused to advance toward the bowl to obtain a tight joint therewith, means whereby the bowl is wholly supported from the lateral inlet pipe compris- ,ing a flanged yoke screwed on the said threaded socket and tension members hetween the yoke and the bowl, with a compression member adapted to transmit the thrust of the bowl to the yoke, the latter being forwardly arched to better take the thrust.
4. In combination, a closet bowl having an outlet and an annular seat formed about said outlet, a flexible gasket disposed in said seat, an inlet pipe in line with said outlet, a tubular connection adjustably carried at one end in the inlet pipe and capable of being axially advanced therein to have its peripheral free edge portion centrally engage with the gasket to provide a tight and compression joint about the outlet, and bowl supporting means for relieving the said joint of bowl thrust. j
5. In combination, a bowl having an outlet, an inlet pipe, a connection between the outlet and the inlet pipe, bowl supporting means on the inlet pipe adapted to relieve said connection of thrust from the bowl and arching forwardly toward the bowl to better take the thrust, and connections between the Y said means and the bowl, described. l
