To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, lViLLIAM H. LLOYD, a
citizen of the United States, and resident of cially to the manner of fastening the bowl of the closet, or other plumbing fixture, to the side wall of a'room, as Willm re fully appear 'from the following detailed description and drawing; in which, i
l Figure 1 is a side elevation of hi lbowl, the fastening means being shown in vertieal section, together with a slabor wall, and
Fig. 2 is a detailed view of the fastening means as employed in my invention, w1th a. soil pipe attachment.
My invention is especially fitted for use with the so-called wall-type of water closet in which the bowl 1 has its entire support by means of a soil pipe connection 14, thus leaving a clear and unobstructed space beneath the bowl and floor; and, as therear portion of the bowl is made flat it can very easily be fastened to the wall or slab so as 'to leave practically no space between the wall and One object of my invention is to provide a method of fastening which may be used in structures where comparatively light or thin marble walls or slabs are employed, and where any excess strain or pull might crack or dislodge the slab, andyet which will give the requisite element of stability.
It is necessary in water closets of this type that the connecting or fastening means be stiff and rigid and the bowl be retained in its proper horizontal position so as to take all" undue strainsXfrom the wall or slab and at the same timlprevent leaks or breaks be-. tween the outlet and soil-pipe jointsl.
One form of my invention is disclosed pressure or strains thereon.
in Figs. 1 and 2, and is intended to loc put into use in cases where the Wall or slab is constructed of heavy materials or is of great thiknessfiso that there is not much probe? 0 Specification of Letters Patent.

bility of damage to the W511 By resin .6:
strains, etc.
In this form I employ a collar 13 which is very wide, has no bolts taking up against the rear side of the wall or slab, and has an internal screw-thread for the purpose of meshing with the external thread on the soil-pipe connection 14 leading to the waste or soil-pipe 15.
This collar 13 is also provided with a flange, as shown at 17 see Fig. 1, in order to form a seat for a gasket 18 so as to create a water tight joint in the usual manner, the bowl 16 having a cut out portion or depression 12, at the outlet thereof, as is shown in Fi 1 of the drawing.
more perfect water tight joint may be obtained by employing an additional gasket 19 in conjunction with a nut 20, which latter overlaps the soil-pipe connection 14 and the rear edge of the collar 13 and compress the gasket 19.
The method ofinstalling my device is as follows: The collar 13 is slipped over the hub of soil pipe connection 14 and is firmly fastened in place by means of the screw threads on the collar meshing with the extern? thread on the soil pipe connection, the xtensions or projections 21 being provided, ,with screw threaded apertures gllihi which rods 22 are passed and ex- ,n-df 'nto the apertures formed in the sides of 1c bowl 16, thus holding the bowl firmly ii place and flush against the heavy wall or slab 23; the proper position of collar 13 being perpendicular to the soil pipe connection 14 and substantially parallel with the wall or slab; the gaskets 18 andlS) having been previously inserted and being compressed into place by means of the flange 17 and nut 20, thus creating a water-tight joint.
It is thus seen that by employing my improved method of fastening. the bowl 16 is prevented from dropping or sagging away from the wall or slab and the pressure and strains on the wall or slab caused by the bowl, are evenly distributed and spread over the entire fixture by the fastening means thus preventing loose joints, leaks,'or dam age to the wall or slab by reason of undue What I do claim as novel and original, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is
