Description
M. L. FILGER. GARBAGE'RECEIVER.
APPLHZATION HLED APR. 7, 1915.
Patented Mar. 7, 1916.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORRIS L. FILGER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JACOB REICHERT, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
GARBAGE-RECEI ER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORRIS L. FILGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Receivers, of which the follow1ng is a full, .clear, and exact descriptlon, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to containers or boxes designed to stand inthe kitchen or pantry of dwelling'houses or hotels, and to provide airtight closures for such garbage receptacles as are to be placed therein. 1 It is its object to provide a receiver which has compartments for a plurality of containers, closures therefor and compartments .for disinfectant, the Whole comprising an airtight box of pleasing appearance. This object I accomplish by that certain construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more specifically pointed out and claimed.
The box portion of the device has walls 1, 1, and a base 2. It is preferred to have legs 3, 3, formed by extending the sides of thebox, and the whole may be constructed of wood or, if desired, of enameled ware, so that a pleasing appearance-is presented.
Hinged atthe edge 6, 6, to the back of the box is the lid'7 for the box. This lid is faced on the inside with strips 8 of wood fprovided with a gasket 9 of rubber or other material as may be desired. It is thus clear that when the lid is closed down tight it is guided to a proper seat on the box and is provided with an airtight fit by means of the gaskets.- a v The compartments are formed by means of removable zinc'or galvanized iron con-" tainers 10, into which the garbage may be directly thrown or into which may be placed a paper bag to receive the garbage directly, said bag to be removed instead of the containers. If twoare used, as shown, cover pieces 4 of segmental shape are glued into the four corners of the box, and double segmental pieces 5 are glued to the sides of the box. Round holes are-thus formed Patented Mar. 7,1916.)
within which the cans are placed, and the I cover pieces are located belowthe edge of the box so as to allow circulation above t em.
The pocket for disinfectant is formed by V a narrow vertical tube 11 set into the hole 12 in the front cover piece 5. Such deodorant or the like as is desired may be placed in this tube, and a series of ventilatconnected to,theinner end of the treadle and extends up through the slot 16 formed in the rear cover piece 5. This rod has pivotal connection with the bracket 17 g on the hinged end of the lid, and by pushing down on the treadle the rod is wardly, thereby lifting the lid.
A brace piece 18 is mounted at the middle of the box for the support of the central cover piece 5, and'a pin 18 is placed on this brace, and a spring 19 is provided connected at one end to the pin and at the other to the bracket 17 .on the lid.
When it is desired to place garbage in the box,' the foottreadle of the box is depressed, thereby raising the lid. The matter is dropped in and the foot treadle re' leased, whereupon the lid will be pulled back to tightly closed position by the spring 19. Any odors that may escape around the joint of the lid and the box are nullified by the disinfectant in the pocket'therefor. The disinfectant will circulate within the box above the compartments formed as described, both above and below the cover piece. j
It is now believed to be plain that a structure is provided of especial utility for the designed purpose. It is compact, convenient and odorless, and can be placed pushed upinside of the ldtchen instead of out of doors,
on'the box, a foot treadle for raising-the lid, and spring means for closing the lid when the foot treadle is released, and means for mounting a container for disinfectant between the compartments.
2. In a arbage box and the like, a series of remova le compartments spaced apart, means for mounting a container for disinfectant between the compartments, a lid on the box, a; foot treadle for raising the lid,
: and a rod for connecting said treadle and lid, and a spring for closing the 11d, all located in said inter-compartment spaces.
3. In a garbage box and the like, a series MORRIS L. FILGER.
