E. ZUBLIN. CLOSING ARRANGEMENT FOR DlSCHARGiNG THE EXIT ORIFICES 0F SILOS AND THE LIKE WHICH ARE CLOSED BY MEANS OF A CURTAIN.-

THE COLUMBIA PLANOLIRAPH 90., WASHINGTON, D cl EDUABED Z'UBLIN,
CLOSING ARRANGEMENT FOR DISCHABGING THE EXIT-ORIFICES OF SILOS AND WHICH ARE CLOSED BY MEANS OF A CURTAIN.
LIKE
OF STRASSBURG, GERMANY.
THE
Patented Feb. 29, 1916.
Application filed July 3, 1914. Serial No. 843,981.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDUARD ZiinLrN, a citizen of Switzerland, and residing at Finkmattstrasse 25, Strassburg in Alsace- Lorraine, Germany, have invented certain new and useful improvements in a closing arrangement for discharging the exit-orifices of silos and the like which are closed by means of a curtain, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a closure for the exit orifices of silos and the like, as for instance, described in my Patent No. 1,0615? 9 of May 13, 1913, with a regulating plate for enabling the regulation of the size of the orifice in accordance with the properties of the material to be discharged and with its size, specific gravity and form. It will be clear that the bigger the pieces of the material are, the larger the orifice and the larger the specific gravity of said material is, the smaller the orifice needs to be, in the first instance in order to avoid a pressure too excessive on the curtain or net, and in the latter, in order to avoid the discharge of too large quantities of the material.
A further object of the invention is to do away with grates and to arrange the curtain in such a manner that it alone forms the closure.
With this and other objects in view the curtain is suspended from the highest point of the outlet opening and is provided with weights on its rear side allowing the regulation of the tension of the curtain in order to allow, if desired, the discharge of coarser material while material of smaller size is discharged through the orifice.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the closure taken on line AB of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a front view of the closure. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the operating elements. Fig. 4 is a section through the regulating plate and its operating parts.
The silo a is provided with a funnelshaped outlet 7), the somewhat extended. A plate cl is closing the outlet dust pipe. This plate (l is sliding in grooves e and is provided with holes f allowing the regulation of the width of the outlet. The sliding of the plate is efiected by means of a nose or projection g which lower side 0 of which is enters the holes f and which is operated by the actuation of a lever h. The projection g is movably arranged within a hood 2' which is swinging around the axle 7c and is also connected with the lever h. The operation of the projection g is effected by means of a rod Z and an angle lever m. The plate is locked in its adjusted position by means of a stop a entering the holes 7 and a hole provided in the guide provided with the channel c. The curtain 0 is suspended from a stationary part p by means of chains and this part is located a certain distance above the highest point of the outlet opening. free space q in front of the outlet opening serves for the reception of the goods being pressed backward during the act of closing. Chains are connected to the ends 1' and s of the curtain and are carrying weights to. Each chain may carry a separate weight or a common weight may be provided for both chains. The chain t is running over a drum w which is turned from a shaft y by the intermediary of a coupling 00 and serves the purpose of raising the weights a. By exerting a pull on the rod 2 the coupling disk 00 is connected up with a driving gear (not shown in the drawing) and the weight a is raised. By raising this weight the curtain 0 is raised and the opening created thereby is of a size proportionate to the height to which the weight is raised. The weight may be raised steadily and in this manner the size of the opening of the curtain may be continuously increased or, a certain width of the opening may be maintained for a certain time by suitably stopping the raising of the weight at a certain elevation. The driving gear for winding up the weight a and the coupling rod 1' are to be actuated from one point in order to time the motion of the weight and the coupling to answer all conditions of the material to be discharged with respect to its size, form and specific weight. The slide cl can also be moved at any time during the working of the device in order to regulate the size of the opening in cases of changes-in the properties of the material, correspondingly.
What I claim is 1. A closure for silos comprising in combination with the tunnel constituting an outlet, a sliding plate adapted to regulate the size of said outlet in accordance with the size of the material to be discharged, means a point above the funnel ralsmg said curtain comprising a clutch mechanism, and a. shaft, and means for regulating the size of the opening of the curtain in harmony With the size of the material to be discharged, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
