TOY JUMPING-JACK.
Application filed November 3, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK BACON, citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Jumping- Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to figure toys known as jumping-jacks, and has for its object to provide an improved and novel toy of this type, which may be operated by one hand. It is conveniently constructed of wood, or may be made of metal or other material.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective of the toy. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof, in one position.' Fig. 3 is a similar view in another position. Fig. 4 is a detail of a sliding piece to which the figures are connected.
The device comprises a central bar or standard conveniently made of two pieces 6 which are slotted lengthwise as shown at 7 and which are spaced apart as indicated at 8, thereby forming two elongated crossed slots. The bars may be conveniently secured at the upper end to the block 9 which as shown is provided with a figure head 10. At the lower end the side bars are connected by a pivot pin 11 to which are pivoted crossed levers 12 provided with handles 13 at their lower ends. The upper ends of the levers are pivoted by pins 14 to the feet of a pair of lower figures 15, located at opposite sides of the central standard. The arms 16 of these figures are rigid therewith and are connected by rigid links 17 to a pivot pin 18 extending across a recess in the sliding block 19 which slides in the slots 7. This block has projections 20 which slide in the slots 8, whereby the block is guided vertically in its movement. The feet of a pair of upper figures 22 are connected to the block 19 by pivot pins 21, and the pivoted arms of said figures are-connected to the head block 9 by pivot pins 23, the arms being pivoted to the body as indicated at 2 1. The figures are therefore disposed in upper and lower pairs, and symmetrically around the central bar or standard.
In operation, by grasping the handles 13 the levers 12 may be vibrated, and when the handles are brought together the figures 15 are lifted or pushed upwardly as shown in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1916.
Serial No. 59,355.
Fig. 3, and as they move they carry with them the sliding block 19, which slides in the slots in the standard, and this block, being pivoted to the feet of the upper figures, swings them upwardly or outwardly in an obvious manner. When'the handles are pulled apart, as shown in Fig. 2, the figures drop and the block 19 slides inwardly accordingly. The device thus produces a simultaneous and jumping movement of a plurality of figures with an amusing and interesting result.
What I claim as new is:
1. A toy comprising a standard, a pair of crossed levers pivoted to said standard, a sliding block on the standard, and a pair of figures pivotally connected to the block, and to the levers respectively.
2. A toy comprising a standard slotted lengthwise, a pair of crossed levers pivoted to said standard, a block sliding in the slot, and a pair of figures pivotally connected to the block, and to the levers respectively.
3. A toy comprising a standard having longitudinal crossed slots, a block slidable in said slots, a pair of crossed levers pivoted to the foot of the standard, a pair of figures pivotally connected to said block, and to said levers respectively, and another pair of figures pivotally connected to said block and to the head of the standard.
4. A toy comprising a standard, crossed levers pivoted to the foot of said standard, a block slidable on the standard, a lower pair of figures pivotally connected to said block and to the levers respectively, and an upper pair of figures pivotally connected to said block and to the head of the standard.
5. A toy comprising a standard, crossed levers pivoted to the foot of said standard, a block slidable on the standard, a lower pair of figures pivoted at their feet to said levers respectively and having rigid arms pivoted to the block, and an upper pair of figures pivoted at their feet to the block and having swinging arms pivoted to the head of the standard.
In testimony whereof, I do aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK BACON.
