UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEg J. GHRAMES, .OF ANADARKO, OKLAHOMA.
CUSPIDOR CLEANER AND CARRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1916.
Application filed May 7, 1915. Serial No. 26,615.
To all whom/it may concern."
Be it known that I, VILLIAM J. GnRAMns, a citizen of the United States,.iresiding at Anadarko, in the county of Caddo, Stateof Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidor Cleaners and Carriers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. g
This invention relates to improvements in cuspidor cleaners.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is adjustable to various sized cuspidors.
Another object is to provide a device of this character by means of whichithe cuspidor can be readily handled and cleaned in a sanitary manner and without any great splashing of water therefrom.
' Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing; in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved cuspidor cleaner, Fig.2 is a top plan view, Fig. 3 is an edge view, and Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view on the line rl of Fig. 3.
Referring particularly to the accompany ing drawing, 10 represents a bucket or other suitable receptacle having a portion of one side open, as shown at 11.. Secured to diametrically opposite sides of this bucket are the arcuate plates 12, and extending vertically from each of these plates is an upright bar 13. Vertically adjustable on the bars 13 are two sleeves or collars 14L, said collars being connected by a cross bar 15, which supports a bearing bracket 16. Rotatably mounted in this hearing bracket is a horizontal shaft 17 having on the outer end a crank handle 18 and on the inner end a bevel pinion 19 which meshes with the pinion 20. Disposed vertically through the bearing bracket, pinion 20, and bar 15, is a shaft 21, the lower end of which is bifurcated as at and provided with theinturned jaws 23. As shown, the outerfaces of the furcations are provided with notches 24 and embracing these furcations, is a yoke 26 which at one end is provided with a-tooth 25, while at the opposite end is pivoted a cam lever 27 positioned tobear against the corresponding furcation so that the furcatlons are moved toward eachother when the cam lever is after referred to.
Slidable on the shaft 21 is a block 28 which is formed with a pair of laterally directed apertured-lugs 29 to which are pivotally connected theinner ends of a pairof plates 30 secured tothe backs of the brushes 31. Above the block is a second block 32 which is formed with a laterally directed lug 33 having an inverted T-shaped member 34 secured therein, links 35 being pivotally connected to the T-shaped member and to the other ends of the brush carrying plates.
Both of the blocks are adjustable on the shaft by meansof set screws 36. Clamped between the jaws of the furcations of the shaft 21 is a brush 37, this brush being arranged to enter and clean the lower portion of the cuspidor while the brushes 31 are adapted'to be adjusted to various angles by moving theblocks toward and away from each other, for cleaning the face of the flange of the cuspidor. J
On the upper end of the shaft 21 is a suitable handle 38 so that the shaft can be raised to permit the positioning of the cuspidor' under the device and also for carrying the de vice from one place to another.
What is claimed is:
A cuspidor cleaner comprising a shaft having a hand-hold at one end and'having its opposite end bifurcated and provided with brush clamping jaws, means for exertmg clamping action of the ]2IWS,'t palr of collars slidably mounted upon the shaft and 7 provided with means for holding them at Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
