UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR A. BRIGHAM, OF BROOKLINE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO WARREN BUTLER, TRUSTEE,.OF DANVERS, MASSACHUSETTS.
'coan.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 22, 1916.
Application filed December 27, 1913, Serial No. 809,128.
To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR A. BRIGHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brookline, in the county of Norfolk and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Cord, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to braided cord.
As illustrative of my invention, I will take window cord which is ordinarily made by braiding together a number of strands of fibrous material, such as jute, linen or cotton. Such cord may have great tensile strength, but in its use as window cord, the constant strain and tensionv and the wear on the strands materially shorten the life of the cord.
In my new cord the strands which are braided together consist of acore of fibrous material, such as jute, linen or cotton, cov-.
the paper cover about the strands cushioning I the strands and resisting the chafing, one against the other, to which they are subjected, and adding materially to the life and strength of the cord.
The annexed drawing shows a piece of braided cord, such as is ordinarily used for window cord, made in accordance with the preferred form of my invention, with each of the strands paper covered. Two of the strands are broken away showing the core of fibrous material at a' and the paper cover at b.
I'claim as my invention:
1. A braided cord containing strands which consist of a core of fibrous material covered with paper.
2. As a 'new article of manufacture a braided cord containing strands composed of a core or fibrous material such as jute, linen or cotton, and provided with a cover of paper, which cushions the cores and prevents said cores from cutting.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR A. BRIGHAM.
Witnesses HELEN C. HANLON, C. B. CONANT.
