This intention relates to a non-relllable bottle,
lt is the obiect oi this inif'ention to provide non-refillable bottle in which the use ot springs, ball valves and metallic parts are dispensed with, and which comprises tow elements which may be readily manufactured and assembled and monnted in a `bot-- neclr to effectively prevent the introduction of a liquid into the bottle through the neclr thereof. but which will readily permit its contents being discharged therefrom.

Figure 1 is a View in vertical section of a bottle neck, showing the invention as applied, and illustrating the device in side elevation. Fig- 2 is a vertical section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, as seen in the direction indicated by the arrows, and showing the valve in its closed position. More speciiically. 6 indicates a cylindrical body member preferably formed oi glass and which is adapted to be rigidly mounted in a bottle neck 7 in any desired manner after the bottle has been filled. The body member 6 is formed with a recess S on one side thereof.. the upper end ot which communicates through a channel 9 formed on the outer periphery of the body member 6 with the lower end of a curved passage 10, the upper end otl which opens at the upper end of the body member il to form a discharge opening 11. A depending lip 12 is formed on the body member 6 on the top wall of the recess S; the inner aceo'f which lip is spaced from the rear wall ot the recess 8 and 'terms a shoulder or stop to limit the pivotal movement of a vertically disposed flat plate 13, the lower end of which piyotally mounted in the lower end wall of the recess S, as will presently be described.
The upper portion of the rear wall of the recess 8 is formed with ground face 1e and the rear face et the plate 13 is ground to conform thereto so that when the plate 13 is against the tace lll a close contact will be effected. Formed in the ground Jace 14: rearward of the plate 13 is an opening 15 communicating with a passage 16 leaning downwardly and openin to the underside of the body member (i to the interior of the bottle neel; 7. Formed in the body member 6 beneath the lower wall oi' the recess 8 is an opening 17 which extends thronoh the body member 6 and communicates with the recessy 8 through a slot 18.
The lower portion of therear wall of the recess S is oil-set as indicated 19 to form a clearance rearward of the lower portieri ol? the vertical plate 13 and also to forni a rib 2O on the inner marginal edge of the slot 1S against which rib the rear face ot' the plate 13 abats. The forward edge oi' the slot 18 projects into a transverse groove 22 formed on the plate 18 and coacts with the rib 20 to form a pivotal mounting tor the plate. The -front and rear marginal edges ot' the slot 18 contact the lower end ot the platerl on the opposite sides thereof in such manner as to normally maintain this plate in a vertical position as shown in In assembling the device the plate 13 is introduced sidewise into the slot 18 and positioned as shown in Fig. 5, whereupon the material of which the body member 6 is formed is turned inwardly at the ends of the slot 18 to loch the plate 13m place. The body member 6 is then mounted in the bottle neck 7 in any desired manner after the bottle is filled. with its upper end disposed a suitable distance below the top of the bottle neclr to permit the use of an ordinary cork 23.
ln the operation of the invention, when it is desired to pour the contents 'from the bottle it is tipped to the position shown in Fig. 3, whereupon the liquid in passing through the passage 16 will torce the plate 13 away from the opening 15, thus allow-k through the end opening 11. The lip 12 then serves as a stop to limit the movement of the plate 13. When the bottle is restored to its vertical position the plate 13 will be turned back against the ground face 1/1 to effectively close the opening 15. When in this position liquid can not be introduced into the bottle through its upper end, as such liquid as may be introduced throughthe passage 10 into the recess 8 will serve to hold the plate 13 in its closed position. The lip 12 in projecting below the upper end of the plate 13 guards the latter from being unseated by the introduction of a wire or other instrument through the curved passage 10 which by reason o1c its curvature also renders it difiicult to insert a wire therethrough.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided an attachment for bottle necks where easy refilling of the bottle is prevented and which device can be made of glass or porcelain or other non-corrosive material and which is free from the objections common to theA use of springs and ball valves.
What I claim is:
1. An attachment for bottle necks, comprising a bocy member adapted to be mounted in the neck ot' a bottle having` a recess on its peripheral side wall, a discharge passage connecting with said recess and opening at the upper end of the body member and having a passage leading from the underside of they body member to the vertical wall of the recess, and a. plate pivoted in the lower wall of the recess normally abutting against the rear wall of the recess to close the upper end of kthe last-named passage.
