To all whom it may concern:

Be it known-that I, I-IUBBARD F. HURD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Troy, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fold-Collars, of which the following is a specication.

The invention relates to such improvements, and consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and subsequently claimed.

Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon which form a part of this specication. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.

The principal object of the invention is to save time and labor in providing a fold-collar with a series of necktie-retainin loops arranged in succession along the neighboring sides of its band and its folded-over top.

Other objects will appear in connection with the following description. i,

Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view in perspective of a fold-collar embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a planview of the same opened out fiat.

Referring to the drawings wherein the invention is shown in preferred form, l is the band, and 2, is the folded-over top of a foldcollar, said top and band being attached to each other by a seam, 3, in the usual manner. In use, the top, 2, is folded over upon Fig. 1.

p In carrying out my invention, I provide near each end of the collar a neclrtie-retaining loop, 4,.on thetop and a similarnecktie-retaining loop, 5, on the band, both being formed by a continuous strip, 4 5, of tape, which, when the collar is opened out flat, as shown in Fig. 2, extends diagonally from the lower edge of the band to a freeedge of the top, crossing the seam 3. One vedge of the tape is attached at 6, to the lower edge of the band preferably by inserting and securing the tape between the plies of the band, and the opposite end is attached at 7, to an end edge of the top, preferably by inserting and securing the tape between the plies of the top.` The'middle portion of the tape is attached at 8to thebody ofthe collar at substantially the line of junction of the band and top, either by the seam, 3, or by separate and top, much time and labor can be saved in attaching the tapes to the body of the collar, and when the top is folded over upon the band, the loops, 4, and 5, will not be opposite one another, but will diverge downwardly from the fold-line of the collar, as shown lin Fig. 1. I am thus able to obtain with a single piece of tape a successive ar;

rangement ofthe two loops, l and 5, which i permits the band of the necktie to be inserted through both loops, thus not only retaining andsupporting the necktie, but serving also, when the necktie is knotted, to hold the ends of the top closely to the band to present a snug-fitting appearance at the front of v the collar.

I prefer to have the two tapes near the respective ends of the collar extend, when the collar is opened out flat, divergently from the lower edge of the'band to the respective end edges of the top, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the loops, 4, at their points of attachment, 7 are closeto the corner portions of the folded-over top,whereby said corner portions are closely held and prevented from curling up when the loops are occupied by a knotted necktie.

. What I claim as new and desire4 to secure 4by Letters Patent is 1. A fold-collar having a band, a folded-y lover top, and a continuous tape extending diagonally across both the band and top when the collar is opened out flat, the opposite ends of said tape being attached -respectively to the lower edge of the band and to an edge of the top, the intermediate portion of said tape being attached to the collar substantially at the junction of the band and top, whereby when the collar is folded, said tape forms downwardly divergent necktieretaining loops'between the band andthe folded-over top. p

2. A fold-,collar having a band, a foldedover top, and two tapes extending, w'hen the collar is opened out flat, divergently from the lower edge 'of the band severally to a free edge of the top, said tapes being attached at their middle and 'at their respective ends to the body of the collar.
