Description

UNITED STATES JOHN DU BOIS, OF GREENSBOROUGH, ALABAMA.
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-GINS.
Specification forming part 0f Letters Patent No. 117,058, dated July 18, 1871.
' provements in a Cotton-Gin patented by me January S, 1850; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to to the accompanying drawing making part of this speciiication, in
` which the ligure is an end elevation of a gin having my improvements thereon.
This invention relates to an improvement in cotton-gms having an upper apartment where motes are taken out above the brush; and con- 'sists of two. doors, one above the other, which, when open, expose the top of the brush; the object of the improvement being to obviate the necessity of raising` the whole top of the gin, with all its appendages, to clean the brush and remove obstructions.
In the drawing, A is the brush 5 B, the saw 5 O, the rib; D, the fan or screw for removing the motes from the teeth of the saws; and E is one of the hinges on which the whole top turns when raised in the original gin to get at the brush A for cleaning it. F is the narrow door in the original gin, patented by me in 1850, to allow the motes to be pushed to the back part of the gin. G is the roll-box. H is a door in the top I ofthe gin. J is a door in the partition K of the gin, the partition K being shown by dotted lines. The top I is, in part, shown by dotted lines L. The doors H and J obviate the necessity of raising the top I to clean the brush A or remove obstructions, for by opening' doors H and J these objects can be accomplished. It only becomes necessary' to raise the top I now when the brush A needs to be taken out and repaired.
I do not claim any improv ement in either brush, saws, ribs, fan or screw, or roll-box.
Vhat I do claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a cotton-gin, the doors H and J, arranged relatively to each other and to the brush A, as described, for the uses and purposes hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing improvement in my cottongin patented as aforesaid I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22d day of May, 1871.
