PACKAGING GARTERS.
Specification of'Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1, 1916.
Application led March 3, 1911. Serial No. 612,106.
To all whom t may concern: Y f
Be itknown that I, JOHN I. CRoAsDALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Berwyn, in the county of Chester and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Packaging Garters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to packaging garters.
The object is to produce a neat and stable package not easily disarranged.
The invention relates especially to what is commonly known as pad garters, which are worn by men.
Referring` to the drawings Figure l is an elevation showing a pair of garters packaged in accordance with my method. Eig. Z is a vertical section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation of a pair of garters packaged in accordance with my method, but arranged differently from that shown in Figs. l and 2.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
T he garter comprises a triangular shaped pad 01": cloth which is non-elastic. To the two upper corners of this pad are secured the two ends of a leg band 5, which is usually made of elastic webbing. To the lower middle corner ofthe pad is secured the clasp 6 for engaging the stocking. The universal way of now packaging these garters is to fold the leg band of each of a pair of garters back of the pad to which it is attached. One garter is then placed upon another with one leg band interposed between the two pads. The spring or elasticity of the interposed leg band prevents the-pads from lying fiat or close together and makes the package unstable, whether a band is employed to hold the package together or not.
The essence of my invention consists in placing the non-elastic non-resilient pads 4, one directly upon the other without any elastic webbing interposed between them,
Copies of and all the elastic webbing folded on -the sideof the pad or pads other than that facing the superimposing or superimposed pad. As an example of such method the back of one pad may be placed upon the front of the other pad and all the webbing folded backward and forward upon the back of the latter pad. A band 7 or other suitable means may be employed to hold or maintain the said garters 1n said relationship. The
two triangular pads 4 when assembled may and elastic leg bands connected thereto, thel pads placed directly one upon the other, the entire area of that part of one pad which superimposes the other being in direct contact therewith, the leg bands folded beneath the pads and suitable means for maintaining said garters in said relationship.
2. A package comprising a pair vofpad garters having clasps and elastic leg bands connected to non-elastic pads, the pads placed one directly upon the other with the lower end of one pad superimposing the lower end of the other pad and its clasp, the clasps projecting in opposite directions and lying directly against a pad and the leg band of each garter folded beneath the pads and clasps, and means for maintaining the garters in such relationship.
