EMIL C. BOECKI-I, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO. CANADA.
BROOM.
Application filed September 4, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL C. BonoKH, of
the city of Toronto, in the county of York,
Province of Ontario, Canada, a subject of the King of Great Britain, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brooms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to corn brooms, and my object is to devise a broom particularly adapted for the use of curlers. Curlers brooms are subjected to very hard use, as curlers frequently sweep very vigorously and the end of the handle within the broom breaks through the corn. overcome by securing in a slot in the end of the handle a short cross bar which is located just at the shoulders formed by the ends of the doubled over intermediate portions of the corn, substantially as hereinafter more specifically described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a broom constructed in accordance with my invention; and Fig. 2 a cross section of the same.
In the drawings like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
l is the handle. To this handle the broom corn 2 forming the inner portion of the broom is secured by Wire wrappings. At opposite sides of the handle a certain quantity of broom corn is bent on itself and the ends of the bent over portion secured by Wire wrappings outside the corn 2. The outer layers of the broom are formed by the corn 4. The portions 2 and 4 of .the broom corn are secured in place without being doubled over. The ends of the bent over por- Specification of Letters Patent.
This trouble I Patented Feb. 1, 1916.
Serial No. 49,111.
tions of the corn 3 form shoulders, below which the handle projects.
In the end of the handle a slot is formed in which is secured a short cross bar 5 immediately adjacent the shoulders aforesaid. This cross'bar forms a broad solid support for the corn at a point where the handle is particularly likely to break through when the broom is subjected to the vigorous use which is frequently necessary in curling.
l/Vith my construction the life of the broom is materially prolonged and the broom given a stiffness particularly desirable in a curling broom.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A broom having a broom head provided with shoulders; a handle extending within the broom head and below the shoulders of the broom headand provided with a slot in its inner end; and a short narrow cross bar secured in the slot the material comprising the broom being lashed to the handle above the cross bar.
2. A broom comprising a handle; a broom head consisting of straight broom material secured to the handle; other broom material bent on itself and secured to the handle, the ends of the bent over portions forming shoulders below which the handle projects; a layer of broom material forming the outer portions of the broom head secured to the handle; and a short cross bar secured in a slot in the end of the handle immediately adjacent the shoulders aforesaid.
Signed at Toronto this 23rd day of J ulv, A. D. 1915, in the presence of the two undersigned witnesses.
