` My invention has relation to a pouring attachment for ladles and the like, and is designed to provide a multiple pouring device which can be readily attached to an ordinary ladle for the purpose of dividing'the stream of molten metal from the nozzle of the ladle into several different molds.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention and which willv now be described, the numeral 2 designates the bottom portion of an ordinary ladle having a pouring 4nozzle 3.
4 designates the usual stopper.
My attachment comprises a metal shell 6 having' therein a lining 7 of brick or other refractory material. r1`he lining is formed with a central sprue 8, which registers with the opening of the nozzle 3, and which, at its lower end, communicates with a branch sprue 9. This sprue extends laterally in opposite directions and terminates in two discharge passages 10 and 11, adapted to deliver the molten metal into two different molds. The lining brick 7a is shaped'to fit the lower. end portion of the nozzle 3 and form a tight joint therewith.
The attachment may be connected to the ladle in various ways. In the drawings, I have shown this as effected by means of two depending hanger bolts 12 and 13, which are pivoted at their upper ends to. bolts 14, screwed into the metal bottom of the ladle. lilach of these hanger bolts has an adjustable nut 15, which forms a support for the slotted lug 16, on the end of the shell 6. The under side of the lug 16, which rests on the end of the hanger 12 is rounded, as indicated at 17, so as to permit the bolt vto be readily swung outwardly when it is desired to disconnect the attachment.` lt is normally prevented from such outward movement. by the pivoted latch 18, working through a slot 19 in said bolt.
The advantages of my invention will be apparent to those skilled inthe art. The attachment permits of slower pouring of the metal, thus giving better products and more solid steel. This slower pouring also permits of the escape of gases from the metal and thus lessens the segregation. ln the ordinary ladle, the greater pressure on the stream of molten metal causes splashing on the side of the mold and the forma- A tion of scabs. This. is avoided by my attachment. The device can be readily adapted to existing ladlesand can be quickly removed therefrom, if desired.
While 1 have shown the attachment l:as provided with pouring passages or sprues for two separate molds, it will be understood Y that it may be adapted for more than two molds. 1t will also be understood that the particular construction of the attachment and the 'manner of lining it and' connecting it to the ladle can be changed, without departing from the spirit and scope of'my nvention' as defined in the appended claims.
My invention is applicable not only to ladies for pouring ingots, but also to ladles and pots for pouring castings generally in sandor other molds.A
1. A multiple pouring device for ladles, etc., comprising a container or shell having a refractory lining formed with branch pouring passages or sprues arranged to communicate with the nozzle of the ladle and to supply ditferent molds, together with means for attaching the container' to a ladle, substantially as described.
2. A pouring attachment fonladles, etc., comprising a metal shell or container having a refractory lining provided with a plurality of outlets and having separate passages or sprues leading -from the outlets to the nozzle of the ladle, together with means for ,attaching the container to a ladle, subst-antially as described.
3. The combination with a ladle having a single bottom pouring nozzle, of a pouring attachment adapted to t said nozzle and having a plurality ot; pouring passages o1" sp1-ues which communicate with the nozzle and which are adapted to supply different molds, together with means for connecting the attachment to the ladle, substantially as described.
4. The combination with a ladle having;r a single bottomv nozzle, of a multiple pouring attachment adapted to fity said .nozzle and having. a plurality ot separate outlets, and means for detachably connecting said attachment tothe ladle, substantially as described.
5. The combination with a ladle having a bottom pouring nozzle, of a multiple pouring attachment adapted to tit the nozzle and having a plurality of outlets, and depending hangers secured to the ladle and supporting and holding the attachment in place below ing hangers pivoted to the bottom of the ladle, said hangers and the attachment having a cooperating detachable supl'iortiug means, substantially as described.
7. The combination with a` ladle having a .bottom nozzle projecting` downwardly below the bottom of the ladle, of a multiplo pouring attachment having a socket portion arranged to make a tight fit with the projecting portion of the'nozzle. and means for detachablv connecting the attachment to the ladle, said attachment having a plurality oiE separate outlets adapted to supply different molds, substantially as described.
