Specification of Letters Patent.
COVER-MOLD.
Patented Jan.25, 1916.
Original application filed February 25, 1915, Serial No. 10,594. Dividedand. this application filed May 13,
1915. Serial No. 27,905.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. LERCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Easton, in the county of Northampton and 5 State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Cover-Mold, of which the following is a specification.
The devic forming the subject matter of this application is a mold in which may be formed a cover of that sort which is used in connection with concrete burial vaults.
This application sets forth matter divided out of my co-pending application for Letters Patent on a concrete burial vault Serial No. 10,594, filed February 25, 1915.
Oneobject of the invention is to provide a device of this type embodying a novel form of core which may be removed readily from the finished product and from the supporting frame wherewith the core is assembled.
Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for retaining the aggregate in place adjacent the ends of the mold o and to provide means whereby the aggregate may be shaped properly to form the outer face of the finished cover.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, th invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of. the invention.
In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1 shows the invention in top plan; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section; Fig. 3 is a cross section; Fig. 4 is a fragmental perspective delineating a part of the lid or cover which is fashioned in the mold constituting the subject matter of this application.
As shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the mold constituting the subject matter of this application is adapted to be employed for fashioning a cover or lid T, the same including a rim C, the upper peripheral edges of the cover T being rounded as indicated at E. If desired, handles 101 of any deslred sort may be assembled with the cover.
The mold in which the cover T is formed, comprises a base of rectangular outline and provided with a rectangular opening 26. The base 25 is equipped with an upstanding marginal rim 29, defining a recess 30. The core comprises a central member 28 in the form of a truncated triangle and a pair of end members 31, the end members 31 being inclined along their inner edges to coact with the inclined edges of the central member 28 of the core, the inclined edges of the members 31 being indicated at 102. Fixed to and depending from the central member 28 of the core is a flange 27, received closely in the opening 26 to prevent relative movement between the central member of the core and the base 25. The end members 31 of the core rest upon the end portions of the base 5. Mounted upon the ends of the base 25 and overhanging the recess are plates 32 held in place by means of securing elements 33 which may be pins or set screws. The plates 32 are rounded as shown at 34.
When the core forming parts 28 and 31 are in position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the aggregate is placed on the core and is compacted beneath the plates 32. A straight edge 100 is slid along the upper edges of the plates 32 and is made to traverse the rounded end portions 34 of the plates. By this operation, the upper face of the cover T is smoothed or troweled off and the rounded edges E are produced, the handles 101 being inserted before the constituent material of the cover has taken a final set. In the recess 30 formed by the rim 29 and the edge of the core 28-31 the depending rim C of the cover T is fashioned. The plates 32 serve to prevent the aggregate from flowing endwise off the mold and also, as hereinafter stated, act as guides for the straight edge 100.
It will be understood, without specific illustration, that if desired, the cover T may be reinforced in any desired manner, as is the common practice of those skilled in the art.
In practical operation, after the product has been finished, the end plates 32 are removed, and the core sections 28 and 31 are detached from. the product, the specific construction of the core involving the blunted triangular section 28 and the complemental sections 31, facilitating such an operatiom' Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is 1. A cover mold including a base having an opening; a core comprising a central section having a flange engaged Within the opening, and end sections cooperating with the central section, the central section being in the'form of a blunted triangle, and the transverse edges of the end sections being inclined to cooperate With the transverse edges of the central section.
2. In a cover mold, a bed having an opening; a core supported by the bed and provided with a projection received in the open ing; and end plates detachably assembled with the bed, the end plates constituting straight edge guides, and the extremities of the end plates being free and exposed.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
