Description

JACOB H. sTULL, or rnEMoN'r, OHIO.
COMBINED Doon riasi Ann i-IooK.
Specification of Letters Piatent.
Patented an. 1*?5,
Application led February 8, 1915. Serial N o. 6,786.
T 0 @ZZ whom t may Concern.'
Be it known that I, JACOB H. SrULL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Door Hasps and Hooks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to bar-metal hasps for doors.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, cheap tO manufacture, and which will reliably secure the door in closed position, and fit flat thereagainst when closed.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed and shown in the drawings wherein Figure l represents a. side elevation of portions of a door and its frame with this improved hasp and hook applied and shown in closed or operative position and with a padlock used in connection therewith shown in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken above the hasp; Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. l; Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing the hasp in inoperative disengaged position; Fig. 5 is a detail perspective View of the hasp detached.
In the embodiment illustrated, a hasp l is shown constructed from a flat piece of metal and provided at one end with an aperture 2 through which the securing staple S is designed to pass for connecting the hasp to the door. r:Che front end of this flat piece of metal has a right-angular longitudinally eX- tending flange 3 formed integral with the hasp and which inclines downwardly and inwardly at its inner end, being preferably formed by bending the metal of the hasp on a longitudinal line intermediately of the width thereof as shown at 4. A staple engaging hook or tongue 5 depends from the flange 3 at a point spaced inwardly from the outer end of said liange and is preferably provided on its outer edge at the base thereof, with a notch 6 to form a bearing for the inner part of the staple S which is mounted in the door frame or casing and thus provide a dependable hold for the hasp. The tongue 5 is preferably formed by striking it out of the metal of the flange and bending downwardly at the base thereof, whereby the flat front face thereof is positioned close or near to the left arm of the staple on the door frame and thus leaves space for the shackle of a padlock and holds the door to which it is attached, substantially against play when closed. The aperture 7 formed in the outer end of the flange 3 by striking out the tongue 5, is preferably enlarged to a suitable size to receive the shackle of a padlock when it is desired to lock the door.
From the above description, it will be obvious that a hasp constructed as described, is very simple and cheap to manufacture, and will securely and firmly hold a door in closed position in the same manner as when an ordinary hook is employed, and it will fit snugly against the door and casing without any unnecessary projecting portions, the flange 3 being the only projecting part of this hasp. It will be obvious that a padlock may or may not be used in connection with this hasp as may be desired and for this reason it is shown in dotted lines.
I claim as my invention 1. A combined hasp and hook comprising a flat metal bar having an aperture in one end and its other end bent laterally intermediately of the width thereof to form a flange, said flange projecting outwardly from said bar and extending longitudinally, and a hook-shaped tongue depending from said flange and having a notch in one edge thereof formed adjacent its junction with said flange.
2. A combined hasp and hook comprising a flat metal bar adapted to rest flat against a door and frame, one end being bent intermediately of its width from the bottom edge thereof to form a laterally projecting longitudinally disposed flange, said fiange having a hook shaped member depending from the lower face thereof and provided with an aperture in advance of said hook-shaped member.
8. A combined hasp and hook comprising a Hat metal bar adapted to rest flat against a door and frame, one end being provided with an aperture and the other end being bent intermediately of its width from the bottom edge thereof to form a laterally projecting longitudinally disposed ange, said my hand in presence of two subscribing flange being provided with a U-shaped slit witnesses. near its outer end to form a tongue, said tongue being notched on one edge adjacent l 5 its junction to said flange and being bent Witnesses: Y
downwardly therefrom to form an aperture. GEORGE W. GIOVANNETTI,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set MARY A. BOLAND.
JACOB H. STULL.
