EEVIH. CHASE, OF SODA SPRINGS, IDAHO.
maniac-swoon Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 18, 1916.
Application filed October 22, 1914. Serial No. 868,007.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that L I-invr H. CHASE, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of Soda Springs, in the county of Bannock and State of Idaho, have invented a new and Improved Milking-Stool, of which, the following is a full, clear, and exact dscrip tion.
Objects of my invention are to provide a milking stool, formedof metal for the major portion to give the requisite strength and permit of the thorough cleaning of the stool when desired; to provide a stool so formed that a flaring milk pail may be placed in proper and convenient relation to the stool when milking; to provide a stool having means for the support of a water pan whereby to wash the cows udder; and to provide a, support for heatingv the water when desired.
The invention will be particularly ex plained in the specific description following.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a milking stool constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
In constructing my improved stool, two side frames 10 are formed of angle iron. The said frames are generally of right angled trapezoidal form presenting a broad base, vertical back portions, top members narrower than the base, and front members sloping for the major portion. To the frames a sheet metal covering is applied over the back 11, and sides 12, said covering being secured by rivets 13 to the frames 10. The front 14 of the stool is also of sheet metal riveted to the frames 10, and is provided with a door 15 hinged at one edge as at 16, and provided with a suitable handle 17. Within the door, on the front 14, there are secured suitable stop members 18, to limit the inward movement of the door.
The top 19 constitutes the seat for the stool and preferably is formed of a single board; the said top may be formed with a slot 20 for convenience in gripping the stool when carrying the same. The top or seat 19 rests on the top members of the trapezoidal frame and fits between the upper edges of the sheet metal covering, the said covering extending at all sides of the top of the trapezoidal frames. Suitable fasteners 13 are driven into the edges of the seat through the sheet metal covering.
In order to provide upwardly proj terminals on the sheet metal covering and provide a compact construction the front edgesi12 of the sides 12 slope for the major portion to conform to the slope of the sheet metal front 14, and at the upper end the front edges present vertical terminals. 12*, against which a vertical flange 14 on the front 14 is received.
In order to hold water within the stool in a manner suitable for the convenient washing of the cows udder, when required, slideways 21 in the form of angle bars, are
secured to the frames 10, and extend from front to rear of the stool, at the'interior of the latter at opposite sides; these bars 21 constitute ledges on which the water pan 22 may rest. The pan is adapted to be slid on the members 21 through the *door 15. Below the pan supports 21, I provide for supporting a torch 23, or a lamp or the like, for heating the water pan. In the present instance the lamp support consists of wire ecting 2 mesh 24, secured to the frames 10 above the bottom edges of the latter. To afford entrance for air to support combustion,,holes 25 are formed in the front 14, near the lower edge of the latter. The lower portion of the front 14 having the holes 25 may be vertical, as shown.
With the described construction a milk pail may be placed on the ground close to the front 14, and the flaring body of the pail will be accommodated by the slope of the said front 14, so that a person seated on the stool will be in a convenient position for milking.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent;
1. A milking stool, comprising metallic side frames formed of angle bars and trapezoidal in shape; a sheet metal covering at the sides, back and front secured to said frames, and extending to the bottom thereof forming a boxlike structure, said stool presenting a sloping front portion; and a top forming the seat of the stool, the sheet metal covering projecting above the top of the frame and the said top consisting of a board fitting in between the said projecting ends of the covering, the said seat resting on the top members of the frames and being secured between the said projecting ends of the covering.
2. A milking stool, comprising angle iron side frames of general trapezoidal shape, each frame presenting a broad base, a narrow top, approximately vertical back members, and sloping front portions; sheet metal sides and a sheet metal back secured to said frames; a sheet metal covering on the frames, at the front, saidrfront comprising a sheet metal frame and a door, said sheet metal coverings extending to the bottom of the frames forming a box-like structure; and a board top on the top members of the frame, said top forming a seat, the' sheet metal sides presenting front edges sloping for the most part, the upper ends of said edges being vertical, the sheet metal front frame conforming to the said front edges of the sides, and the board top fitting be tween the upper ends of the sheet metal sides, back and front, and being secured thereto; i
3. A milking stool made in form of a box Copies of this patent may be obtained for of general trapezoidal shape and having its smaller end uppermost and presenting a slopingfront portion, a door in said sloping front portion, horizontal guides projecting from the side walls within the stool to receive and support a water pan, a foraminous support below the pan, guides to support a heating device, said. stool having air inlets adjacent its base to support combustion of the heating device. I
4. A milking stool made in form of a box of general trapezoidal shape and having its smaller end uppermost and provided with an opening to form a hand hold, and presenting a sloping front, said front having LEVI H. CHASE.
