Be it known that l, ARTHUR 0. Emerson, citizen of the United Eitates, residing at Greenwood, in the county of Steuben, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lniprovei'nents in Antilriclring Devices for Cows; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact dw scription. of the invention, such as will onable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to make and use the same.

This invention relates to antidriclring devices for cows, and more particularly to an article which is adapted for application to the rear leg of a cow whereby to prevent bending of the hock joint as is necessary when the animal attempts to kick.

An object of the invention resides in the provision of a simple and durable appliance or the above character in which there is embodied a novel form of mechanism whereby the same may be quickly and easily applied to and secured in position on the leg or the animal.

With the above and other objects of simi lar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrange ment of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.

In the drawing :Figure 1 is a side elevational view illustrating the rear portion of a cow with the invention in applied position. Fig. 2 is a plan view 01" the device showing in dotted lines the position of the animals leg. Fig. is a front view, and Fig. is a detail perspective view of the securing means for the device. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 2 with the latch in inoperative position.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the device is shown as comprising a rod A of any desired material, the intermediate portion 10 of which is shaped to conform to the outside curvature of the rear leg of a cow, with the ends 11 and 12 flattened and curved laterally therefrom whereby to provide a pair of suitable leg receiving portions to respectively engage the front of the leg above and below the hock joint.

Secured to the intermediate portion 10 of the rod and extending rearwardly therefrom is the stationary jaw 13 of the clamping member B of the device. Hingedly connected as at 14 to the free end of the stationary jaw 13 is the movable jaw 15 of the clamp, said jaws being each outwardly Specification of Letters Patent.

For operating the clamp B, there is arranged transversely of the outer face of the statioi'iary jaw 13, a wedge-shaped latch plate said plate having formed therein a plurality of notches 21 for the purpose to subsequently appear. Swingingly connected with the movable jaw 15 and adapted for movement longitudinally of the wedge plate 20, is a latch member 22, said member being in the form of a substantially ti-shaped yoke that embraces the jaws 13 and 15, when in locking position, and is provided at its free end with a curved and sharpened edge 23 for locking engagement in the notches 21 ot' the plate.

Having now fully described the invention, in applying the device to a cows leg the member A is engaged thereon in the manner as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1, with the jaws 13 and 15 receiving therebetween the large tendon of the leg above the hook joint. The yoke 22 is then engaged with the bolt 19 and swung to the position shown in Fig. 2 to embrace the jaws of the clamp, the sharpened edge 28 engaging and moving downwardly on the wedge plate 20, to press said jaws tightly aboutthe tendon, and lockin one of the notches 21 when the desired pressure on the leg has been obtained.
