Description

PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC N. SWASEY, 'OF YONKERS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEMORANDUM-BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,884, dated July 11, 1871.
especially designed for physicians to be used as' appointment-books, but applicable to various other purposes; and it consists in the manner of `folding the leaves and binding or stitching the book, as will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figlu'e l represents a perspective View, showing` the book partly open. Fig. 2 is a cross-section. Fig. 3 is a side view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the memorandum-book, which may be of any convenient or desired size, and covered with any suitable material. B represents the cover; C, the leaves. Each leaf has a fold laid in upon itself, and the line of each consecutive fold is extended beyond the folding line of the preceding leaf just suflicient to receive or fold yin the preceding leaf or all the preceding leaves, including, if desirable, the front cover. By this mode of folding, the fold of each leaf as it comes into use for making current appointments or memorandums may be laid upon the front cover or front page, thus lgiving a smooth and sufi ciently-rigid bearing-surface upon which to write.
The memorandums (names, dates, place, Sto.) being made upon outside of the fold of each leaf, it will be seen that such inemorandums may be kept folded on the outside of the front cover, and that, by opening the fold, ample space is foiuid for making notes or remarks in reference to particular cases, persons, or places referred to in the memorandum.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of cover B B and blank leaves- C, each leaf bein folded in upon itself, and each succeeding fold being extended beyond the line of the preceding leaf and folding therein, as and for the purpose specified.
