IBRAHIH G. KHETRALLA AND ANTONN F. HADDAD, OF CAIRO, EGYPT.
BOOK OR ENVELOPE FOR THEATERS OR OTHER PLACES OF AMUSEMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,703, dated April 26, 1892. Application filed December 30, 1891. Serial No. 416,545. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, IBRAHIM G. KHEIR ALLA and ANTONN F. HADDAD, subjects of the Khedive of Egypt, and residing at Cairo, Egypt, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Improved Book or Envelope for Theaters or other Places of Amusement, Entertainment, or Instruction; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.
The object of our invention is to provide a book or envelope which shall combine a theater ticket, a programme of the performance, and advertisements.
It is also our object to combine a theater ticket and diagram.
It is also our object to provide a combination of a theater-ticket, a diagram of the seats of the theater, and a programme of the performance.
It is also our object to provide a combined diagram of atheater and a'programme of the performance provided with means to hold a theater-ticket, the coupon portion of which can be permanently affixed.
In the accompanying drawings our invention is shown in book form as applied to theaters; butit is evident our invention is equally applicable to other places of amusement, entertainment, orinstrnction, and maybe combined in other forms with information appropriate to the kind or the place of entertainment.
Figure l is a rear elevation showing an envelope or book closed and having an admission-ticket and coupon for reserved seats attached to the back. Fig. 2 is a like view showing the envelope or book open, with diagram of the seats on its back, and the body of the ticket removed. Fig. 3 is a front view, in perspective, of the book open, showing the leaves containing the programme audadvertisements. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the book or envelope closed and provided with a metal fastening. Fig. 5 is a modification showing frontview,in perspective, of abook opened, placing the ticket 011 the inside of the cover. Fig. 6 shows a modification in detail giving different forms of the coupons.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, C denotes the body of a theater-ticket, and a denotes the coupon made integral therewith but detachably connected thereto by perforations, creased lines, or other suitable means. The coupons, as usual, contain the section, number, or position of the reserved seat, and the body 0 contains the usual printed matter for admission to the theater. The coupon is pasted, sewed, or otherwise attached to an envelope or cover 0'. This envelope is made of fancy-colored'paper or othersuitable i material and has stamped or printed upon its 1 back or outer binding a diagram of the theater, as shown in Fig. .2, or said diagram may i be printed upon a separate sheet of paper and inclos'ed within the envelope, as shown in Fig. 5.
The envelope or cover contains a number of pages bound in with it or pasted to the inside of the same. The first one or more pages are to contain the programme and the other pages to contain advertisements.
Fig. 5 shows a modification in the form of the cover or envelope, and we have also arranged the ticket inside and devote the first page of the book to the diagram of seats, in which case we use the second page for the programme.
It is evident that if desired, especially in the modification shown in Fig. 5, the pages of the book containing the programme and diagram may be made of much larger sheets to fold in when not in use. 7
It is evident that the book may be made in a variety of shapes and the ticket may be printed on one of the leaves instead of upon the cover; but we prefer the construction shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4, with the ticket upon the outside.
It is evident that we may make the book with a cover adapted to receive the tickets afterward, a space being allowed for securing the coupons above the diagram, said space to be gummed or provided with other means for securing said coupon, or the coupon may be provided with suitable means for securing it to said part of the book-cover.
As shown in the drawings, the diagram only illustrates one part of the theater, and separate books should be furnished in different shape and finish for the various parts of the theater, each set of books containing a diagram of a given part.
It will be seen that our ticket-book or envelope is made in convenient size to carry, and can be madehighly ornamental, in which case it would be kept as a souvenir; that it bears the ticket of admission to the theater; it preserves the coupon intact, firmly held to the back of the envelope; that under or below this coupon is presented a plan or diagram of that part of the theater in which the seats are located, thus enabling the owner to immediately locate his seat without the aid of an usher, and contains also a programme of the performance. It may also contain a history of the play, or the libretto of an opera, while the advertisements follow on other pages.
Our invention is also adapted where ad mission-tickets only are used, in which case, as shown in Fig. 6, the coupon could be stamped with theword Admission or like significant word, which would enable the owner to leave and re-enter the theater at any time without procuring a pass-check and would cause him to retain the envelope at least until the performance was over.
plied to tickets of admission to expositions, instead of a programme would be substituted a description of the exhibits, also a diagram of the grounds and buildings, and other information.
Having shown and described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, iS-
1. The combination of a ticket and'programme, said ticket having its coupon secured to said programme, and said programme containing advertisements.
2. The combination of a ticket and diagram, said ticket having a coupon rigidly attached to said diagram, and the admission or body part of the ticket detachably secured to said coupon. v
3. The combination of the programme and diagram for a theater or other place of amusement, entertainment,or instruction and means for securing the coupon of a ticket, which conpon shall designate the position of the 'reserved seat.
4:. The combination of a programme and diagram for a theater or other place of amusement, entertainment, or instruction, and a coupon to the ticket, said coupon giving the position of a reserved seat on said diagram and having detachably secured thereto an admission-ticket.
In testimony whereof we afliix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
