ToaZZ who'm z't may concern: g
Be it known that I, ELsA rUn S. F BENCH,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and usefulI'mprovements in Exhibition Devices 1 for Articles Having Casters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devicesfor the exhibition of furniture or other articles having casters and especially for bedsteads and the like and has for an object toprovide a track for guiding the casters in the desired direction and having an improved construction for receiving the casters into said track.
With these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will hereinafter be more fullyde- 25 scribed and claimed and as shown in. the
accompanying drawings in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which Figure I is a plan view of my invention. Fig. II is a side elevation of my invention showing a portion of the legs of a bedstead with casters in the track. Fig. III is a de-.
tail view of the receiving-end construction of my track showing in full lines a caster about to enter the track and in dotted lines indicating the caster in position as at Fig.
A-A Fig. III.
dealers in exhibiting sample bedsteads is to connect the head and foot sections of the bedstead by very short side bars (usually about a foot or less in length) so thatthe 4 two sections stand close together and the possible in order .to economize floor' space- This arrangement necessitates the handling of the beds from one end only. In drawing one of the bedsteads from the row or in replacing it therein it is apt to collide with ub againstthe bedsteads adjoining on The common practice among furniture 2 n xrrisimioii nzsvicnroa ARTICLES HAVING CASTER-S.

each side thus-damaging'thegoods and delayingthe work unless some track or guide is provided for the casters. For this purpose I provide a channel member 1 of suitable width for. the reception of an ordinary caster andhaving screw holes 2411 the floor 1 thereof or other suitable means for permitting it to be fastened to the floor and having closed end 3 for preventing the movement of thecaster beyond that end of the track.
At the receiving end of the track I bend down and flatten out one side 7 of the channel member as at a so that the same will be fiat upon the floor in order that the caster may easily roll thereupon. The bending of the side as at 4: leavesa slanting guiding edge at 5 which serves to guide the caster into the. track should the caster be run against the same. Likewise should the caster be run against the upstanding side I 6 of the channel as shown atFig. III said and in dotted lines at Fig. III. In use these tracks will be attached to the exhibition floor parallel to each other and at intervals slightly in excess of the width of the bed- When it is desired to withdraw a particu-.
lar bed it may be pulled out without danger of collision with adjoining beds as the track keeps it at all times spaced away therefrom.
When it is desired to replace the bed one side 6 will deflect and turn the caster into thetrack, in the position shown in Fig. II,
of the casters as 9, on the head section (for example), is rolled on to the open end of the track and by the side 6 or guiding edge 5 is turned and guided into the track after which no further manual guiding of that caster is required as it will follow the track. When the bed has been pushed along until the other head caster 8 approaches the open end of the track, it likewise is rolled upon the floor 1 and flat portion 4: and no further manual guiding is required as the side 6 or guiding edge 5' will guide it into the track.
While I have, described my invention as used for bedsteads it is evident that it may likewise be used for any articles having casters.
I claim 1. An exhibition device for articles having casters, consisting of a channel member including a fiat floor and upright sides, one side being bent down into the plane-of the floor of the channel and for a distancefrom the open end of said channel.
2. An exhibition device for varticles hav 111g casters, consisting of a channel member having one end thereof closed and the other end open and having sides extending from the closed end toward the open end, one side extending to the open end but the other side being shorter than the first mentioned side. a
3. In an exhibition device for articles having casters, a channel member having a closed end and'sides extending therefrom toward" the other end; one of said sides extending substantially tosaid other end but the other side being bent, at arpoint back from said other end, so as to form a slanting guide. r I In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses. a
