' CIGARETTE-DISBENSING oAs.
To all 1x1/Omit may concern.' v l Be it known that I, vANDREW STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette- Dispensing Cases, of which the yfollowing is a specification.
'My invention relates to a vcigarette dispensing case, and it embodies a magazine for holding a number of cigarettes, and means for dispensing said cigarettes one by one as required. V In lorder that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying* drawing, in which:
Figurel is a perspective view of the device with. vits lid 'open and` showing several cigarettes in the magazine. Fig. 2 is a perspective View ofthe device closed, with a cigarette part way ejected lfrom the device.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on line III-III of Fig. 4. vFig'. 4 is a. verticalfsection on l.
line-IV-IV of Fig. 3, with the lid of the case added and the follow vplate released.
Fig. 5 is a cross section online V-V' of Fig., 3, with the lid added. Fig. 6 is a horizontal section on line VI-.-VI of Fig. :3, with the lid addedvand some of the`other. parts removed.' Fig. 7- is a. detail o fcertain parts employed in carrying out the invention. A In carryingv out the invention, I employ a suitable case 1 having a bead 2 at three sides thereof to limit the closing movement of a lid 3, secured to the back of the case 1 by'a hinge 4. The case 1 is divided by a partition-5 into a cigarette magazine 6 and al compartment 7, in which latter most of the A mechanism of the device is located. The
partition 5 is reinforced by marginal flanges 18 and has a longitudinal slot 9 and a segmental slot 10. Saidv partition 'issecured to a U-shaped lug 11, which in turnis sefcured tothe inner surface of the back of the case 1.
12l designates a follow-plate provided at its rear side with a guide 13 slidable in the slot 9 of the partition and provided at one side with a notch 14 to receive apin 15, whereby vvthe'follow-plate 12 is held near the lower; end of the case when the magazine 6 is to befloaded with cigarettes A. The guide 13 has i beveled lower corner .15a which pushes thepin 15 forward, so that the same mayienter thevnotch 14. l
When released from the pin 15 the follow Specification of Letters Patent. j Patented Jan. 1916. application med April 17, 1915. serial No. 22,006.
plate is drawn against the adjacent:cigaf-vv and secured at its opposite end to aneye'1 l projecting vfrom one of the partition flange 8" The ntelmedltPOl-bn of the resilient if.
Cable 16 runs around a sheave 19 jollald compartment 7. The sheave 19 has but one" peripheral yflange 19a, which coacts with the partition in retaining the cable 16 onsaid sheave 19.- f. The pin 15 'projects laterally froin the plunger 21, one end of which extends outward through an opening 22 in, one 'side of the case 1 and is provided with a thumb piece 23u.' The inner endfof the plunger 21 is connected by-'a pivot 24 to a lever 25, fulcrumed `in the compartment 7 upon a pin 26 and bent at itsnipper. .end to form an ejector 27, which extends into the magazine 6 throughthe segmental slot 10. The plunger 21 is normally-,held in its outermost position, Fig. 3, by a retractile spring .28.
The ejector 27 lies vat the rear end of the. uppermost cigarette, so that when it sweeps through the segmental slotA in the direction indicated by the arrow, Fig. 3, it ejects saidf'uppermost cigarette partway from the case, as disclosed by Fig. 2, througlran outlet 29 located in the front'side of the case and communicating with the upper end of the magazin-6. i
The operation briefly stated is as follows To loadthe magazine 6 the lid 3 is thrown tof'open position and the follow-plate 12 is pulled downward until the pin enters the notch 14. The magazine is then filled with cigarettes after which the lid 3 is closed.. Vhen a cigarette is desired the plunger 21 is pushed inward against the action ofthe spring'28 and disengages thev pin 15 from the guide 13, when the resilient cable 16, causes the follow-plate 12 to'push the ciga rettes upward in the magazine 6. Continued inward movement of the plunger 21 rocks the lever 25, which causesthe ejector 27 to sweep through the slot 10 and eject the topmost cigarette through the outlet'29 f ar enough to allowthe operator to remove it either with his mouth or lingers. `When the plunger is 'released Ait is instantly restored Vto normal positionby the spring 28,
and in turn restores tlie lever and the the follow plate 12 immediatelyforces the j remaining cigarettes upward, so that the topmost one may be ejected in the` same manner .as the initial cigarettes.' rlfhus the Cigarettes may be successively ejected until the magazine 6 is emptied.v y
lVhile I have shown and described the device as arranged for handling Cigarettes, it is obvious that it Can be also used in dispensing cigars Without departing from the spirit and scope of the Claims. Having thus described my invention, what claim anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is: Tl. In a device of the character described, a case having a magazine communicating with an outlet and adapted to hold cigars or cigarettes, a follow plate in said .magazine to pushthe contents 'thereof toward the outlet, aplunger to lock said follow plate -while the 'magazine is being loaded., and means controlled by said plunger to ejeet the eontents of said magazine one byone through the outlet'. Y
2. ln a device of thel character described, a easey having a magazine communicating with an outlet, a slotted partition separating the magazine .from the remainder of the ease, follow plate in said magazine to push the contents thereof toward the outlet, a guide on said follow plate operating inthe slot of the magazine and having a bevel cor-,
11er',l el plunger to lock saidfollow plate while the magazine isv being tllledyand a lever controlled by said plunger to eject the contents of the magazine one by one through the outlet. l
In testimony whereof I aliiX my signature,
in the presence of'two witnessesil.,
