This invention relates generally to regis?- ter cases and more `particularly-*to a novell*- construction of sheet metal case adapted to i.
receive and contain an account register. y
It will be understood that itis desirable to have a register case fire-proof and vthis fire-proof case should be as light as possible and with this object in view these register cases have been-,made from sheet metal filled with asbestos.
It isV of course necessary to have a case which opens up both atthe top and the.V
ybe provided with openingsI C in whichsteel front and some difficulties have been encountered in the connection` between the vide an exceedingly'cheap, simple, durable and efficient means of accomplishing this pivotal connection and theinvention consists therefore in certain details of construction and novelties vof combination hereinej after fully described and pointed n outl in the claim.k f n l .j j
In the drawings forming a part offthis specification: Figure l is a side view of a register case embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail sectionalfview on the line 2 2 'looking in the direction ofl the'arrow.k Fig.V 3 is a detail view showing the position .of
the parts when the top or cover israised.
Fig. 4f is a detail perspective view of the cast-metal filling block. n
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the top or cover, B* the side of the lcase and C the cast-metal filling block. V'Ihe top and sides are made of sheet; metal spaced apart and filled with asbestos or otherffireproof packing D. Thetop and sides Vare ,shouldered where they meetin order toy provide a tight joint. The rearend'of thek cover'A kis curvedas shown atA and the rear upper end of each side is correspondingly curved as shown at'B. When the sides were made entirely of sheet metal considerable difficulty was encountered in this rounded end B curved end A kofthe top was'and still is properly shaping up ymetal ^filling welding.
and furthermore aslthe j slightlywnarrower the straight i LEYLAN'Q, 01.110,A essieNoilifeeaeMrleN portion thereofsothatthe said curved end can'be turned downin between the sidesof 4the case, great diicultywa's always encoun-` tered.y in making this rounded en d entirely out ofgsheet metal; that is,-when the inner and Louter 'sheets werebra'zed together vit ywas a very tedious job and required smoothing and filing-after the brazing'operations` were completed and all of these operations consumedagreat deal of time and were consef quently very expensive. In order therefore tocniake a smooth, finished turned shoulder at the rear corner of the side, I place a vcast block C between the sheets of metal forming the sides andy connect the said sheet metal plates thereto by spot- Ifpcdesired kthe cast-metal filling blockmay pins C2 are placedandto which the metal plates are spot-welded, this location of the l y cover 'and this shouldered Vedge is struck upony the arc of ay circle which corresponds with the arc rof the curved end A. This ycast-metal filling blockV besides servingthe purpose of producing a smooth-finished curved shoulder also provides a suitable sup- Y port for the attachment ofthe` pivot arms :carrying the top or cover, these-pivot arms being omitted from the drawing for the purpose ofclearncss 'of illustration.
narrower than the flat portion of the coverk and the thickness of the filling block is such as to compensate for this, the side flange of thefcover being bent inwardly as shown at A2 at the juncture of the straight and curvedk portions; l The eXtreme end of the curved` portion Ay has a rearwardly projecting lip A3 which isadapted to co-act with a forwardly projecting lip B3 arranged upon the back of the case and which completely closes the joint at the rear and cuts ofi" all possibility of the entrance of fire at that point, when the 'cover is closed. j
When the cover is raised as shown in Fig. 3 the curved yend passes down into the case,
