To all tohom it may concern Be t known that I, EDWARD P. BAKER, a cltlzen of the United States, residing at 'Darien, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Facilitating the Removal of Valves, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact, description of the in- Vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has for its object to provide a novel and efficient device for facili tating the removal of engine valves.
Another object is the provision of a device for removing spring closed engine alves capable of a wide range of adjust ment and including means for reliably locking the partsin adjusted position.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of partsas will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

ter in adjusted position upon the bar 5. The opposite endof the arm 8 is formed with an internally screw threaded opening 11 receiving a screw 12 having a head or handle 13 at its upper end. A head 14- is end ofthe screw 12, and is preferably of polygonal removably threaded upon the inner formation as illustrated in Fig. 4.
In use. the valve stemor rod 15 is engaged within the slot 7 in such relation that the angular end 6 of the bar is disposed between the spring 16 and the pin 17 positioned through the valve stem or rod 15, carrying the valve 18. The arm 8 and screw 12 are subsequently adjusted so as to engage the head 14; with the upper surface of the valve 18, and the screw 12 is rotated so as to draw the angular end 6 of the bar up- 8, thus compressing the spring and removing the lower end of the latter from the pin 17 which latter may be quickly and conveniently removed and the valve 18 and stem 15 subsequently removed.
It will be understood that the arm 8 is rotatable upon the externally screw threaded bar 5 and may be adjusted angularly with relation to the angular end 6 of the bar. The nuts 10 engage against the opposite sides of the arm 8 reliably securing the latter in adjusted posit-ion upon the bar 5. When it is desired to remove a relatively small valve, the polygonal head 14: is preferably removed from the screw 12, so as to permit the end-' of the' latter to engage directly upon the upper surface of the valve.
What I claim is" 1. A device for facilitating the removal of valves, comprising a bar having an angularly directed end formed with an inwardly directed longitudinal slot, an arm adjustably mounted on said bar, means for securing said arm in adjusted position, a screw fitted in the end of said arm opposite said bar, and a polygonal head having an internally screw threaded'recess receiving the inner end of said. screw.
