Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE OTTO AND GEORGE W. BAUER, OF WASHINGTON, D. O.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE- FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Lette'r'sPatent No. 116,742, dated July 4, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE OTTO and GEORGE W. BAUER, both of Vashington city, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain Improvements in Bottle-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to fasteners for bottles, jars, 85o.; and it consists in improved shape of wire fastening, by which the bottles are easier opened to allow the cork to be drawn.
Figure 1 shows a sectional side view of our device attached to a bottle. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device attached.
In the drawing, A represents the neck or mouth of a bottle, around the lower part of which is placed a small wire, a, securing the Wire bale or fastener B to its position. This fastener is of a peculiar shape, having a projection or horn, b, at its upper end, bent in a semicircular form, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. This is a very important and great improvement over the bottle-fasteners now in use, as those well know who are in the habit of using them. In the ones employed at present, a person has to press against the two upright or vertical pieces, c c, Fig. 3, by which the fingers become very sore, especially when a great many bottles are to be opened in succession, as the upper part over the cork, and which secures it, often embeds itself therein so iirmly that it is impossible to move it without breaking the top of the bottle. With our improvement this is very easily obviated, as the projection can be placed against the counter and easily pushed aside; or, it may be done by the fingers, as a better hold can be got thereon, and also more leverage, which, of course, makes it much easier to open the bottles than the old way.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the bottlefastening, consisting of the arms c c, right-angular portion B, and horn or projection b, substantially as set forth.
GEORGE OTTO. Witnesses: GEORGE W. BAUER.
VICTOR HAGMANN, O. DONOEOO.
