To all whom it may concern Be it known thatwe, VVI'LLIAM R. JnAvoNs and ARNOLD R. VVHITTAKER, citizens of the residing at Cleveland, inv the county of Cuya-hoga and oil stoves. In ordinary practice, the doors are supported 111 open positionby means of:
chains, the chains: being. hooked at their lower ends to the door and 'attheir upper ends within; the oven.. Among the disadvantages arising from the use of thesechains is that, in closing the door, they are. liable to be deflected outwardly, catchingbetween the door and the ovenand preventing; the
'closingof the door. A further disadvantage is that the ends are liable torbecome un hooked.
The object of this'invention isto provide door supporting: means which are not liable to the objections noted and which combine these attendant advantages with cheapness of construction and ease of assembling and disassembling.

upper end of the rod or wire 16 isbent upr' wardly, as shown at 17, and extendsthrough the flange 8, being bent into a hook 18. In
the preferred construction, the flanges '8 are bent downwardly where the hook extends through it, as shown at 18, thus affording suflicient clearance between the hook and-the liningmfthe top 3 to enablethe hookand therodor wire 16 to swivel freely. As a modification, the lining of the top 3 maybe embossed or bent upwardly, asshown at'3 to receive the hook 18 and permit the rod-16' to swingwithout interference-see Fig.-' 6

This is a desirable feature of our supporting means since, when the door is raised, the natural tendency of the wires or rods 16 is to move toward each other by gravity, and thus come more surely within the space defined by the oven opening 5. As the door is closed, the upper rods or wires 16 swing on their pivots and the lower portions thereof drop by gravity within the door opening,
carrying the upper ends of the lower wires or rods with them.
The weight of the lower rods or wires (being actlon.
the door by the supports is absolutely prevented. When chains are used, the quick closing of the door frequently results in throwing a portion of the chain outwardly between the seating portion of the door and the oven front, whereby the closing of the door is prevented,an objection which is overcome by our construction.
It will be evident further that the construction herein shown prevents the unhooking of the lower ends of the supporting wires 15, while the arrangement of the flange 18 immediately beneath the lining of the top 3 prevents the similar unhooking of the upper ends of the rods or wires 16. In fact, it is necessary to remove the top before the wires 16 can be swung to unhooking position. It will be observed further that the bases 11 of the clips are extended some distance beyond the bolts which hold them to the oven door and that the lining of the door is so formedas to prevent the clips from swiveling on the bolts. This insures the clips against swiveling or turning into a position that would interfere with the proper closing of the door.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim is Y 1 The combination, with an oven, of a door therefor, angle clips connected to the door, a flange in the oven above the door opening thereof, a pair of rods or wires piv otally connected to said flange and having their upper portions offset and their lower portions adapted to project through the door opening when the door is opened, and rods or wires pivotally connected to the first, mentioned rods or wiresand to the said clips.
'2. The combination, with anoven having an opening in the front wall thereof, an inwardly extending flange above said opening, and a top removably seated on said flange, of a pair of rods or wires having hooked upper ends extending through said flange, a pair of rods or wires pivotally connected'to the lower ends of the first mentioned rods or wires, angle clips secured to the door,"and a pivotal connection between the lower ends of the last mentioned rods or wires and the angle clips.
3. The combination, with an oven having an opening in the front thereof, of a door pivoted beneath said opening, a pair of rods or wires pivotally connected to the door, a second pair of rods or wires pivotally connected to the upper ends of the first mentioned rods or wires and extending within the opening in the oven front and pivotally supported within said oven, the distance be tween the upper ends of the upper rods or wires being less than the distance between the lower ends of the lower rods or wires.
4:. The combination, with an oven having an opening in its front and a pair of vertically spaced flanges above said opening, of a door pivoted beneath the opening, a pair of angle clips detachably secured to the door, a pair of jointed supports for said door, each support comprising a pair of pivotally connected rods or wires, one of said rods or wires being connected to one of said clips and the other rod or wire having a hooked end extending through the lower flange, the distance between the upper ends of said supports being less than the distance between the lower ends thereof, and a top having a lining and removably supported between the flanges and resting upon the lower flange.
5. The combination, with an oven having an opening in its front and a flange above said opening, of a door pivoted beneath the opening, a pair of jointed supports for said door, each support comprising a pair of pivotally connected rods or wires, one of said rods or wires being connected to the door and the other having a hooked end extending through the flange, and a top having a lining and removably supported upon the flange, there being a clearance space between the hook and the lining.
6. The combination, with an oven having an opening in its front and a flange above said opening, of a door pivoted beneath said opening, a pair of jointed supports for said door, each support comprising a pair of pivotally connected rods or wires, one of said rods or wires being connected to the door and the other having a hooked end extending through the flange, and a top having a lining and removably supported upon the flange, the flange being depressed about the point of connection of the rods or wires therewith to provide a clearance between the hooks and the lining.
7. The combination, with an oven having an opening in the front wall thereof and an inwardly extending flange above said opening, of a pair of rods or wires having their upper ends pivotally connected to said flange and having their upper portions ofl'set, a pair of rods or wires pivotally connected to the lower ends of the first mentioned rods 1,166,131 Hit or wires, angle clips secured to the door, and a pivotal connection between the lower ends of the last mentioned rods or Wires and the angle clips, the distance between the upper ends of the upper rods or Wires being less than the distance between the lower ends of the lower rods or Wires.
