HANS BORG, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
WALLET OR PURSE.
Application filed September 7, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Hans Bone, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in il allets or Purses, of which the following is a specifh cation.
The present invention relates to improvements in wallets, pocket-books, purses and the like, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind, which, besides conveniently holding coins or other articles, will also securely hold sheets of paper, such as paper currency, sheets of note paper or the like.
In the accompany drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved wallet, closed; Fig. 2 is a similar view of the same partly open; Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section of the same in the same position as Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a view similar to Figfl of a wallet used for holding sheets of writing paper.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates an inner folded sheet, and 2 an outer folded sheet, of leather or other suitable material, open on one side and joined at the ends, as shown at 3 and 4:, and thus forming a central compartment 6 and outer compartments 7.
To the ends of one told of the outer sheet 2 are secured, as shown at 8, edges of an open sheet 9, an extended portion 11 of which is provided with side flaps 12. The other fold of the outer sheet is extended to form a tongue 13, which is provided with one member 14 of a spring socket fastener adapted to engage another member 16 thereof secured upon the outer side of the open sheet. The open sheet is further extended, as shown at 17, to form a tongue, which is provided with one member 18 of a spring socket fastener, which can engage the other member 19 thereof secured upon the back of the open sheet.
By the provision of an open sheet secured at its side edges only to the main portion of the wallet, purse or other receptacle, especially in conjunction with the side flaps 12, there is formed a receptacle for sheets of paper which is closed only at the sides, and open at both ends, in which sheets of paper can be held very securely, yet conveniently.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 1915.
Serial No. 49,217.
This, when made of a small size, is con venient for holding paper currency 20. onethird of the paper bill being contained between the main portion of the wallet and the open sheet, as shown in Figs. 3 and a, another third being contained between the extension of the open sheet and its flaps, and the remainder being folded over the flaps, as shown at 21. When made of a larger size the wallet is convenient for holding sheets of note paper 22, one-half of each sheet being contained between the main portion of the wallet and the open sheet and the other half between the open sheet and its flaps. It will be observed that the sheets of note paper, being folded over the rounded edge of the main portion of the wallet, are not sharply creased. /Vhen thus made of large size and containing note paper, the wallet can be used for supporting the paper when writing thereon, as when traveling.
I claim i 1. In combination with a main portion of a wallet, a sheet secured at its side edges only to said wallet and having an extension of the same length as the sheet and provided with side flaps, said extension being further extended to form a tongue adapted to fold over the main portion of the wallet and rest against the back of the first part of the sheet.
2. In combination with a main portion of a wallet, a sheet secured at its side edges only to said wallet and having an extension of the same length as the sheet and provided with side flaps, said sheet having a tongue adapted to be folded over the wallet.
3. In combination with a main portion of a wallet, a sheet secured at its side edges only to said wallet and having an extension of the same length as the sheet and provided with side flaps, said sheet having a tongue adapted to be folded over the wallet, said tongue and back being provided with engaging fastening devices.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
his HANS BORG.
