FORK RACK,
APPLHCATION FILED SEPT. 30. 1914.

FORK-RAG K.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 28, 1915.
Application filed September 30, 1914. Serial No. 864,227.
To all whom 1; may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL E. NrLssoN, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at the borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of vented certain new and useful Improvements in Fork-Racks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in sanitary holders or receptacles for forks as more particularly set forth in the accompanying drawings. 7
In said drawings, Figure 1 illustrates in front elevation partly broken away an apparatus embodying an application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same with parts broken away, and Fig. 3 is a View looking upwardly at the fork holder at the left of Fig. 1.
4 is the base or supporting box of the apparatus provided with a cut away portion as indicated at 5 provided with a pair of resilient lips such as 6 through which the forks after being used may be introduced dropping into the chamber 7 where they may be removed for cleaning. From this it will be seen that the forks cannot be eX- tracted or removed after they have been once used and placed in the box 4.
8 are suitable brackets or supports upon the box 4 adapted to carry the holder 9 from which the forks 10 are suspended as shown.
11 is a suitable door which when opened allows the forks 10 to be introduced into the holder 9, and after the holder is loaded said door may secured. As the forks are used they are drawn leftwardly looking at Fig. 1 until they strike the resilient guard 12 which is forced leftwardly by the fork allowing the same to be drawn downwardly through the cut away portion 18. The U-shaped guard 14: is adapted to engage between the prongs of the forks so that the same may not be twisted or turned and thus be drawn out of the bottom of the holder although of course it will be readily understood that instead of using a U-shaped engaging member as shown, a straight partition or bar or other New York, have inbe locked or otherwise suitably suitable means may be employed. The lower portions of the discharge ends of the U- shaped member are preferably curved outwardly as indicated at 15.
From the foregoing it will be readily un derstood that it would not be possible to reinsert one of the forks into the holder by pushing it upwardly through the opening 13 as in that case the fork would become jammed between the resilient guard 12 and the end 1% of the holder. Furthermore, the flared corners 15 would make it impossible to bring the U-shaped member or partitions between the prongs of the fork. On the other hand, it will not be possible to replace the fork through the door 11 after the same has been securely locked, consequently as the forks are used the most convenient way of getting rid of them is to drop them through the receiving jaws 6 into the boX intended for that purpose and a suitable jar or tub of water or disinfectant may be left in the box 7 to receive the forks if desired.
Of course it will be understood that various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. A fork holder comprising a receptacle provided with an elongated opening the walls of which are adapted to engage the shoulder of a fork, said opening enlarged at a point in its length to withdraw the fork, and means in combination with said receptacle for preventing the introduction of said fork into said receptacle through said enlargement of said opening.
2. A fork holder comprising a receptacle in which the forks are adapted to suspend from their shoulders and having a discharge opening for the withdrawal of said forks, interlocking means adapted to engage the prongs of said forks, and a guard adapted to allow of the withdrawal of said forks but to prevent the return of the same through said opening.
3. A fork holder comprising a receptacle in which the forks are adapted to suspend from their shoulders and having a discharge opening for the withdrawal of said forks,
" opening, said guard located at one end of said holder and said holder being elongated so as to carry a roW of said forks.
Copies of this patent may be obtaine In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
