Specification of Letters Patent.
'Patented Dec; 21,'1915.
16, 1914. Seral No. 812,446.
Toall whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES S. C. ROCK, a subject of the King o'GreatBritain, and a resident of the city ofNew York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of `New York, have inventeda new and .Im- L proved Drainage and Vent Fitting, ofiwhch the followings ja full,' clear,.and eXact description, this being a'division of the Letters Patent of the United States for a wasteand vent system, No; 1,086,938, granted to'me February 10, 1914:. J
Theobject of the invention is toprovide i a new and improved drainage and vent fitting designed to* connect the soil pipe with the vent pipe and adaptedto connectwith-r bath tubs; sinks, water closets and other fixtures to be drained and Vented, the arrangement being suchthat the plumbercan readily assemble the parts and make the desired Connections 'so that properdrainage and venting is insured.
In .order to accomplish the *desired result -use is made of a drainageand vent fitting,
comprising ina single-piece structure a soil pipe member -and a vent' duct member extending integrally'from -the said soil' pipe member, the said vent ductmemberextending a distance above the .said soil pipe member, the upper 'end ofthe saidventduct member being arranged at an an gle for connection with the main vent pipe, andthe said vent duct member being provided with a lateral Opening fordrainage and venting of fixtures. p
A -practical embodiment of the in-Vention is represented in the accomp'anying drawings forming a;part of this specification, in
WhlCh *similarecharactersfof reference indicat'ecorresponding parts in allthe Views.
Figure 1 is a plan View of the Combined -soil pipe, dra'inage; and vent fitting as 'api plied, the soil and vent pipes and the walls `of the building being shown in section Fig.
.2- is a side elevation of the Combined' soil pipe, drainage andvent fitting provided with two vent ducts and a separate inlet for drainage, parts being in section; Fig. '3 is a side eleva tion of the Combined soil pipe, drainage and vent fitting applied to a soil pipe and having* a single vent ductand a drainage inlet; FigQ iis a Similar `View of'the sa-me showing three' vent ducts forming integral portionsof the soil pipe member and termnatng in a single terminal; Fig. 5 is a Dvided and this application filed January like View of ,the fittng provided with a sina gle vent duct;--Fig. 6 lS a similar view of the same and showing' the fitting with two vent ducts for water closet and bath'connection and partly shown in section; and Fig. 7 isa Similar View of the same and showmgthe v fitting with two 'vent ducts for connection with a closet and sink, the upper end of the vent ducts being shown* in section. H
In the former' my invention illustrated in Figs. land 2, use is made of a Combined soil pipe, drainage and vent fitting 'having a soil pipe member A. forming a portion of the soil pipe B. From une side o' the soil pipe member A extend vent ducts C and D having their upper ends leading to a common g terminalE eXtending lateraliy and arranged for engagement with a vent pipe member G forming part of the main vent pipe H. The terminal E is l preferably threaded and screws into a correspondingly-threadedhub F on'the vent pipe member G. The vent ducts C and D are provided intermediate their ends and at any desired height With lateral openings I and J, of which; the opening' I is connected with a sink If (seeFig.
l), while the Opening J is connected with a water closet-J to drain the same and-to provide the desired iventing. The vent ducts C .and l) may-be spaced apart-butgarepreferably a unitary structure, as'indicated in g pipe H.(see;Fig. 1) from which leads a branch pipe N to the fixture K and,' if' desired, other fiXtures, for instance, abath tub O,'may be 'connected bya pipe O' with the pipe K for drainage purposes, and, by a branch pipe O with the pipe N; Other fixtures,- suchas abath tub P and a water closetQ, may be connected with a second combinedsoil pipe drainage and vent fitting arranged on a second soilpipe B', the said second fitting having on its vent ducts C and Da common terminal E connected by a pipe R With the pipe N, it being understood :that
the bath .tub P connects by a pipevP' with the lateral Opening I of' the second fitting,
and the water closet Q, connects with the lateral Opening J of this second fittingby a 'pipe Q'. By the` arrangement described a single vent pipe H can be used for properly ventinga large number of fixtures which drain into the soil pipes B and B'. V
In the' modified'forin shown in Fig. 3, the Combined soil pipe,"'drainage and vent fitting consists of a soil pipe member A' forming part of the main soil pipe B and from' 'one side of the said niember-"A' extends ini tegrallyand upwardlya -vent duct.:D' hav inga lateral threaded terminal E' for engagement with the main vent pipe member Gr'. The duct D' is provided'with a lateral opening J for connection with 'a water closet, and from the' side of the memberA' -eXtends a drainage inlet K having a hub K for connection with a fixture to-be drained,
the same as'above described in reference to the drainage'inlet Kand its hub KC In the form-shown n Fig.- 4:, the soil pipe member A forms aportion of the-soil pipe B xand is' provided with integral vent ducts C', D and S', all leading 'to an' integral lat- V 'eral ter-minal E arranged for-connection with'the-vent pipe member G. The vent ductIC' is provided; with a lateral Opening -Pflforconnection with .a sink, the duct B is provided'with a lateral Opening J 3 for connection with a water closet,'and the vent duct S `is-provided with a lateral opening S' for connection with abath tub or similar fixture.
- 'Inthe simplest form of my invention as, shown 'in Fig.- 5, the soil pipe member A? forms-'a part of the soil pipe B* and is provided' at oneside with an integral upward'ly eXtending vent duct D the lateral`jterminal *E of whichis adapted to connect with the ventpipe member G. The vent duct D is provided with a lateral Opening J* for connection with the water closet. 3 'i In the form shown in Fig. 6, the soil p'ipe member'A forms part of the main soil pipe i B and from the said memberA: eXtendS 3 theventduCtS Dtand S 'leadingto a com mon -terminal E* arranged for connection with theventppe member G. Theiduct D* is provided with a lateral Opening J for connection with a w'ater closet, and the lat A eral: Opening S in the duct S? is arranged for connection with a bath tub r 4 r In the form shown in Fig. 7, the soil pipe member A forms part' of the soil pipe' B and 'is provided with-vent' ducts C and D v having a common terminal' E for con nection with' the vent'pipefmember G.
' `The vent duct pipe 0 is .provided'with a lateral Opening I for, connectionwith a sink, and the vent duct D? is provided with a-l ateral Opening J for connection with a water closet. 1 V v It is :understood thatcby the' arrangement described the lateral openings' in thevent ducts may be at one sideor the other actlement of' one of the main pipes B or -H with referenceto 'the' other, less likelihood v understood that by the construction' described there is, in* case "of setr of a rupture of the joint and consequent leakage' of -gases It will further be noticed that by providing ,the vent ducts with lateral .connection a bracing action is provided by tending to prevent a relative movement of one of the main pipes B or H with reference *to the'other. l r 'Aithough various forms of my invention have been 'shown and described I do not` limit myself to the same as it is evidentthat under the varyingconditions 'under which plumbing' 'Systems' are installed, differentforms may be necessary. v
Having'thus *described my inventien, I
claim as -new and desire to secure by Letters 1. -A fitting i of 'thecharacter described,r
