PLUMBING SYSTEM.
Application filed June 6, 1922. Serial No. 566,220.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosErH A. FnLToN, citizen of United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plumbing Systems, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to plumbing systems, and has as an object the provision of a system which is especially applicable to one story buildings. A further object is the provision of a system which will be very simple to rough in and which will entail but slight work to install the fixtures after the roughing in is finished.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view with a soil pipe shown in horizontal section.
Figure 2 is a vertical section on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of one of the fittings.
Figure 5 is an end view of a second fitting.
Figure 6 is a side view of a third fitting.
The system as shown comprises a soil pipe 10 embodying a Y having a vertical portion 11 and a branch portion 12. Connected to the vertical portion 11 and in alignment with the soil pipe is a section of pipe 13 of the same diameter as the soil pipe to which pipe the closet 14 is connected.
To the branch 12 the continuation of the soil pipe to the roof is connected, the first fitting above the branch 12 being shown as a length of pipe 15 having bells 16, 17, for attachment of connections for fixtures. If desired the bell 17 may be placed on the same side of the pipe as the bell 16, as shown in dotted lines on Fig. 2, at 17'.
The branch 12 of the Y is also shown as having a bell 18 for connection of a waste pipe 19 for a bath tub 20.
For connection of the waste pipe of a sink 21 there is provided by the invention a pipe 22 having a downwardly directed elbow at one end which elbow is screw threaded upon its interior and is adapted to have connected thereto the trap 24 for the waste of the kitchen sink.
To provide for a fixture on both sides of the wall 25 in which the extension 15 of the soil pipe is located, there is provided by the invention a fitting 26, which is branched at its end and is provided with bells 27, 28 to one of which the trap 29 ot' the wash bowl 30 is shown as connected. As shown in Fig.
5, the two branches of the fitting 26 are formed to provide separate traps lying closely adjacent to each other and each provided at the outside of its lowest portion with clean out plugs adapted to be removed from the outside of a wall 25, as also indicated in Fig. 5. If desired the two traps may be formed by placing a partition within a single conduit of U formation, and with the outwardly turned bells 27, 28. In a single story building the Y 11, 12 can be located in the basement and provide a ready attachment for the closet 14: with the portion 15 of the soil pipe concealed in a partition upon the first floor. By such a locationv oi' the closet possibility of clogging by waste matter is very much reduced since there are no elbows or Ys necessitating a change of direction of material flowing from the closet.
The provision of the fitting 19 having a trap integral therewith and a threaded portion to connect with the tub 20 allows of the connection of the tubby means of a pipe wrench only, after the roughing in is 001m pleted. This fitting greatly simplifies the roughing in job since but one calked joint is necessary to prepare for attachment of the tub.
By provision of the special fitting 26 a wash bowl can readily be located on either side of the partition in which the pipe is concealed and the provision of the special fitting 22 allows of a waste connection for the sink 21 with the least possible number of joints; The second largest volume of water discharged into the waste at any one time comes from the bath tub 20 and the arrangement shown delivers this to the waste pipe closely adjacent the straight vertical portion thereof. 1
Minor changes may be made in the physical embodiment of the invention without departing from its spirit.
I claim:
A plumbing system comprising in combination, a waste pipe, a Y'having a vertical branch in alignment with said waste pipe and a branch at an angle thereto, a vent pipe communicating with the said angular branch and extending With its axis parallel with angular branch, a Waste'c'onnection with said bell for a bath tub, a pair of bells carried by said vent pipe, a pipe connected to one of said bells having oppositely directed branches for connection of fixtures on opposite sides of a Wall, a pipe connected to a 10 second of said bells having an integral doWn- Wardly directed elbow at its end for connection of a fixture trap whereby thegre-atest volume of Waste delivered to said Waste pipe will be delivered substantiallyin alignment 15 therewith.
