Description
JOHN N. THOMSON, OF NORTH TTLEBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN CRAVAT-HQLDERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,510, dated June 27, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JOHN 4N. THOMSON, of North Attleborough, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and made an Improvement. in Gravat-Holders; and the following is declared to be a correct description thereof: f Cravats have before been made with frames or holders of wires and of sheet metal to spring around the shank oi' the shirt-button and hold the cravat to its place at the neck-band or collar.
My invention relates to a frame or holder tha-t is made to grasp the neck-band but-ton by a yielding spring.l and said spring is connected to a metal plate, forming the frame, in such a manner that y Athe spring is not liable to become entangled or injured; hence my holder is more dura-ble and reliable than others before made.
In the drawing, Figure l is a front View of the said holder complete, but without the bow or cra vat; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section ofthe holder Wit-h the bow or cravat thereon.
The plate ot' metal a is made-with holes at 1 l, by which the bow is to be attached thereto; and an opening, 2, is made of a. size sufficient to admit the collar-button b,- and this opening 2 is eX- telnded along toward the center ot' the plate a, of a size to freely admit the shank or attaching threads ot' the button b. The clasping-spring c is made of a wire loop, attached near the middle of the clamp d, made by a projection from the metal plate a turned over upon such Wire loop c, and the ends of the wire are turned back at 3 3 and'inserted through mortises 4 4 in the plate a. The wire loop c is bent to form the shank-bow at 5. It is now to be understood that the holder formed by the plate a and wire loop c is presented over the. shirtneck band-button b, so that the saine passes through the openin g 2, and then the holder is pushed along and the loopc opens to pass the shank ofthe button, and then to retain the same within the bow 5. The wire loop c forms a reliable attachment for the plate a, because the said loop is so attached that it is not liable to become bent by use, and the ends of the loop c, being bent around and extending further than the mortises 4 4, form springs to aid in keeping the loop properly to its place.
I claim as my invention- Themetal plate a., provided with the opening 2, in combination with the Wire loop c, which is attached to said plate a by the projection d and bent ends 3 in the mortises 4, and formed with the shank-bow 5, as and for the purposes set forth. y
Signed this 13th day of May, A. D. 1871.
JOHN N. THOMSON.
