Description
PATENT FFICEJ FRANCIS LAYAUX, OF MONROE, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-MILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,458, dated June 27, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS LAYAUX, of Monroe, in the parish of Ouachita and in the State of Louisiana, have invented an Improved Gang- Saw; and do hereby declare that the following description, taken in connection with the. accompanying drawing hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvement, by which my invention may be distinguished from others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent.
My invention relates to that class of sawingmachines commonly known as gangsaws; and the nature thereof consists in certain modications in the details of the construction of the same, hereinafter set forth and described.
In the a ccompan yin g drawing, whioh illu strates my invention and forms a part of the specification thereof, in which corresponding parts are illustrated by similar letters, Figure l is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 is a rear view.
The construction and relative arrangement oi' the various partsI of my invention are described as follows:
Immediately in the rear of the frame A, to
which the saws are secured, and which, being arranged between the posts B and operated in the ordinary method, need not be more fully described, are the transverse bars O, between which are arranged the blades D. The said blades are arranged directly behind the saws, and, when the operation of sawing lumber is going on, t within the slits cut by the saws, serve to steady the lumber, prevent the saws from clogging, and keep the parts separated. The said transverse bars are rendered vertically adjustable by means of the screw-bolts E, and may be removed from the frame with facility by means of the slots F, which allow the tenons G, upon being raised, to pass free of the frame.
Having described my invention, I will indicate what I claim. and desire to secure by Letters Patent in the following clause:
The blades I), when combined and arranged with the transverse pieces C in the rear of the saws, as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of June, 1871.
F. LAYAUX.
Witnesses GaAs. S. WHITMAN, H. A. DANmLs.
