Description

UNITED .STATES PATENT FFICE.
JOHN PARK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENT, TO HALE` & MANLEY, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOTTLE-STOPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,347, dated June 27, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN PARK, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bar-Bottle Stoppers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact rdescription thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this speciiication.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a bottle-stopper for bar-rooms, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the almexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a section of a bottle with my stopper inserted in the mouth thereof, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the stopper.
A represents a piece of metal made so as to have spring in it. This is bent around so as to form part of a circle, and to its inner side in the center is soldered or otherwise fastened a rod, B. This rod is bent horizontally outward to about the center of the circle of which the spring `plate A forms a part, and from this point the rod passes perpendicularly upward. On this rod is placed a light metallic ball, C, which can freely move up and down on the rod. A small knob or button, D, on the upper end of the rod prevents the ball from coming off. The plate A is compressed so as to be inserted in the mouth of a bottle, where it remainsby pressing against the sides thereof.
The use and operation of this stopper are too obvious to need any mention.
It may be made of any kind of metal, rubber or other suitable material.
Having thus fully describedmy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the spring cylindrical plate A, rod` B, ball C, and knob D, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim. the foregoing a-s my own invention I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses:
GEO. E. BRINGMAN, A. P. RUTHERFORD.
