My .invention relates to bag fasteners and more particularly to a type thereof applicable to bag frames having pivotally connected frame members and .embodying therein a lift latch adapted to lock said frame members when closed.

An angular opening extends longitudinally through said lug, or other means are provided upon said lug whereby it may be operatively connected with its controlling spring. This lug is adapted to project through the opening d in the frame member a, and within the channel of said frame to a suflicient extent to expose the opening therein within said channel closely adjacent the top thereof. The controlling spring comprises a straight' section preferably of round spring wire having a portion thereof z bent at an angle to said straight section, so as to be projected toward the inner wall of the frame member a when it is assembled in the latch. To simplify the structure of this spring, l preferably merely turn the end thereof as shown. rlhe other end of said spring is adapted to be operatively connected with the lug g of the lift member, preferably by being flattened as at j so as to have a sliding fit with the angular opening in the said lug g. l also preferably provide said spring with a stop shoulder 7.4 adapted to define the movement of said spring when applying it to said lug, and also for accurately positioning the projection i in relation to its cooperating shoulder upon the frame a. rllhis stop shoulder is preferably formed by a short bend in the said spring.

Below said recess Z, l form a seat at for the end of the projection i. rlhis seat may be formed in any desired manner as by pressing in the lower edge ofthe frame as shown in the preferred form of the invention, or by pressing the metal outwardly as shown at frz/ in the modification shown in Fig. 6. To insure against the displacement of the end of the said projection with relation l to the seat n or fn. l preferably flatten said projection and bring the end thereof to an edge adapted to rest firmly upon said seat. By this means, I am enabled to reduce the width of the seat, and at the `same time cause the'projection to take a sufficiently firm bite thereon. 1When the seat is formed by pressing the metal inwardly, vas in the preferred form of the invention, l have found there is a slight tendency of the projection z' to be forced from this seat when the edges of the bag are being connected to the frame member and to obviate this condition, I preferably arch said projection slightly as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.

A bag fastener embodying therein a frame consisting of hinged members, one of which has an opening in the top thereof, the inner wall of said frame being formed inwardly adjacent the edge thereof to produce a spring seat adjacent said opening, a litt latch member or knob, a lug having an angular spring socket therein, carried by said lift member or knob and adapted to project through said opening and Within Said frame, a spring having the ends thereof flattened, one end of said spring having a sliding fit With said spring socket in said lug, and the other end thereof being projected at an angle so as to engage the side Wall of the frame member and rest upon Said Seat, said bent end being arched longitudinally and away from the Wall of said frame` member, Where by the positioning of Said Spring in relation to said lug and said frame member Will subject it to a torsional and a lateral stress adapted to normally seat Said lift member, and a nose or catch carried by the other frame member and adapted to be operatively engaged by said lift member.
