Description

UNITED STATES GEORGE A. HEARN, JR., OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
I IMPROVEMENT IN SHOW-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,306, dated June 27,1871.
To all Iwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. HEARN, Jr., of the cityof New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new anduseful Improvement in Show-Gases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, rei'- erence being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of thisspeciiication.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in show-cases, and is designed for the purpose of showing and exposing for sale kid gloves, hosiery, laces, parasols, handkerchiefs, silks, ribbons, and any other merchandise that it may be desired to, show in cases; and consists of one or more glass-covered compartments, con-k structed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top View, of my improved show-case. Fig. 2 is a section of Fig. 1, showing the angle of the compartments. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are modiiications of the same general design.
Similar letters oi'reference indicate corresponding parts.
The present invention is designed as animprovement on the show-case patented by me recently, No. 113,660. The improvement consists in presenting the back compartments more fully to the View of thel customer, and to enable the merchant-t0 exhibit a greater quantity and variety of goods in Aa given space without increasing the height of the case. It moreover enables me to use the case in a vertical position, as represented in Fig. 2. I also design to form an entire counter of one or more glass cases. Ii' of more than one, I propose to arrange the compartments in an angular position, as .seen in the drawing. Wherethe cases are made as represented, eighteen sample dozen handkerchiefs', representing a stock of large amount, can be shown ina case three lfeet by two, thus bringing a great variety before the eye of the customer, while they are all at the same time under the eye ofthe seller, and, after the sale is made, can be put in order and rearranged in the shortest space of time, and made ready for the next customer.
With show-cases of this description, where merchandise of the descriptions named are on' sale, at least one-third of the usual number of clerks may be dispensed with.'
A represents the compartments 5 B, the glass covers. By placing them at an angle, or by lapping them one onto the other, as seen in the drawing, their number maybe increased, and consequently a greater variety of goods exhibited in a given space without increasing the height of the Having thus described my invention, I claim
