ROLLER-MOUNTING sonwmnows.
Specification a Letters Patent. 7 P t t d N v, 30, 1915 Application filednugust G, 1913. Serial No. 783,409.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WVILLIAM A. SEMERAK,
. a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of'lllinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roller-Mountings for Windows, of which the following is a' specification.
My invention relates to improvements in roller housings especially adapted for use on window frames to alleviate friction and has for its object the provision of a mounting of this character which is of simple construction and eflicient in use.
lChe invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. i The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a plan viewof a blank from which the roller housing is made, Fig. 2, a view showing the roller housing secured in position on a window frame, Fig. 3, an elevation corresponding to Fig. 2, Fig. 4,.another elevation taken at right angles to Fig. 3, Fig. 5, an interior elevation of a window equipped with the roller housings, and Fig. 6, a vertical section taken through the window frame and'showing the sashes in .ele-
.vati on.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the accompanying drawings comprises a strip of metal 1 provided with counter-sunk openings 2 for the reception of screws 3 for securing the housing in position. The strip 1 is provided with a lateral extension which is bent upon lines l, 5 and 6 to form the three sides 7, 8 and 9 of a roller housing, the adjoining portion of strip 1 constituting the fourth side of said housing. The corresponding end of strip 1 is provided with a countersunk opening 10 and the opposite housing side 8 is provided with a counter-sunk opening 11 which falls in transverse alinem'entfwith opening 10,
when the lateral extension is bent 'to form the rectangular housing as explained above. I
A rivet 12 is passed through op 10 one of the openings 10 or 11 and the other end of said rivet is upset in the other of said 1 ing from the spirit of the invention.
openings thus securely holding the housing in proper form. Prior to the mounting of rivet .12, a roller lt is loosely mounted thereon, said roller being of a size to project slightly from the rectangular housing, as indicated in Fig. 2. This constitutes an economical and eiiicient construction for mounting'the rollers 14:. I
In'use the roller housings are secured at the four corners-of the lower and upper window sashes 15 and 16 respectively so as to run upon the bottomsof the guide grooves in the frame 17 of the window to alleviate friction. j I
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying myinvention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without depart- I therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the class described comprising a hollow rectangular housing,-said housing being formed from a single strip of sheet metal having a lateral extension at one end,
bent to form three sides of the housing, the
adjacent portion of the strip forming the fourth side thereof, said strip being pro- OFFICE.
vided with openings to receive securing means and opposite walls of said housing.
being provided with transversely alining counter-sunk openings; a rivet extending transversely through said housing and having its ends upset in said counter-sunk openings; and a roller journaled on said rivet and having its periphery extending beyond said housing, whereby said rivet serves to secure said lateral'extension in position and constitutes a mounting for said roller, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. g g
