CHARLES Gr. WOODS, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOSEPH F. LEAHEY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
`belt; and Fig.
TRUSS.
racines..
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. Woons, a
citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Trusses, of which the following is a speciiication, containing a full, clear, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in trusses, and the object of my invention is to construct a truss having a readily detachable pad which may be removed for purposes of repair or cleansing.
Afurther object of my invention isto con-` struct a two-part truss padframe having a ball and socket joint between the parts in order tov form a universal joint therebetween and to embrace said parts with a flexible band whereby said parts in their movements are protected from engaging with the clothing of the wearer. Anda further object of my invention is to construct a truss pad base so that it may be held on a belt circular in cross section.
'With the above purposes in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 shows in plan a truss pad and belt constructed according to my invention; Fig. 2 is a plan of the removable truss pad; Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, of a device constructed according to my invention removed from the 4c is a sectional plan taken on the line 4h41 of Fig. 3.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings: 5 designates the belt which is circular in cross section and .constitutes the support for my improved truss pad.
6 designates the base member of my truss pad which is preferably constructed of hard rubber and generally of disk formation having on its upper face a socket 7 and on its bottom face a perforated lug 8 arranged to embrace the belt 5in such manner that the base may have freedom of movement rotatably relative to the belt. l
9 designates the head of my improved device which is preferably circular in form and whose upper face is concaved. This Specification of Letters Patent.
and exact description,
Patented ucv. es, reis. Serial No. 738,817.
head is preferably constructed of hard rubber and has on its lowermost face a socket 10. The two sockets form a seat for a ball l1 which serves as a universal joint between the base and the head.
- Secured to the concaved face of the head 9 is a number of fastening members 12 ar ranged to coact with the fastening members 13 carried by the truss pad proper 14. rlhe truss pad proper is preferably constructed of a single piece of yielding material and is conveXo-conveXed in cross section.
. 15 designates a band which embraces both the base and head and is preferably constructed of rubber to act as a means 'for holding the base and head together so that the ball 11 will not be displaced from its sockets and so that the head may have freek rocking movements relative to the base.
16 designates airing which is slipped over the band 15 and is secured to the base 6 by means of the set screws 17 in order to hold 1Ehe band against movement relative to the ase.
18 designates a. ring in all particulars similar to the ring 17 and serves the function of securing the band to the head 9. y
It will be observed that by reason of the circular belt 5 the base 6 of the device may have a maximum of freedom of movement relative to the belt and, by reason of the uni versal joint connection between the base and v the base and head.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES @.YWOODS.
