Janene FOR o onnnorine, THE DRAFT-YOK]? 'ro ,THEDRAWLBAE' in "nai lwawcans.
Chicago, in'the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Means for Connecting the Draft-Yoketo'i the Draw-Bar in Railway-Cars, "of which the following a full, clear,- concis'e, and exact desoription,
' part of this specification Figure '1 is a plan fication; "FigQ l being a plan view partly'in r q lon itud nal section, Fig. 5 a side elevation V and 8 and 9 the upper and lower limbs y reference being had to i the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
means for connecting the draft yoke'to the draw bar in railway cars, v
The object of my invention is to provide a safe draw barandyoke connection, and
one permitting the convenient disconnection of draw bar. and yokeiwhen desired,
In the accompanying drawingsforming a view partly in longitudinal section of a draw bar and yoke connection embodyingfmy invention, f'FigglZ'is a side elevation partly in vertical longitudinal section. Fig. is a cross sectional View on line 0f- Fig.2. Figs; 4, 5 an djl 6 illustrate a modipartly vertical, longitudinal section, and

thereof' respectively, which are provided near their .forwardfends .with the vertical slots 10, '10. The draw bar 11, -(partly shown in drawings), is provided through its butt 12 with the vertical slot 13. The front follower 14 disposed between the upper and lower limbs of the yoke? is, provided with a'hollow head or hood 15 having the longitudinally extended vertical perforations 16, 16. The limbs 8 and 9 of yoke 7 extend. at their forward ends within hollow head' l5 and engage the butt lZjof the draw bar between them. The perforations 16, 16 in the hollowhead 13 the draw bar-and 10, 10 inthe limbs of-the yoke register to receive the vertical, preferably: flat key 17, which is secured in place by the pin. 18 passed through the key and the, longitudinally 'ex-.

I claim 4 1. In a device of the character described, a
me'ans" of connecting the draw bar and draft yoke, said means consisting of a fol-- lowerprovided wvith a hollow head and a ke said-key engaging the yoke and the draw bar, and being slidably connected with said hollow head;
' V 8. In a device ofthe character described, a:
means of connecting the draw bar and draft yoke, said means consisting of a follower provided withra hollowslotted head and a "low head respectively. The openings'38 in key -passing through the draw bar and said head, and slidably engaging within the slots of said head.
" 4. In a device of the character described,
the combination with the draw bar, draft yoke and key, of a frontfollower provided with a hollow head to receive the draw bar and the draft yoke, the head, draw bar and p yoke being slotted to receive the key, and the mj saidkey being in sliding engagement with draft yoke consisting of a follower provided 1 15,
with a hollow head slidingly connected with athe" draw bar and yoke, an'dprovided with an internal shoulder engaging the draw bar in its buffing movement.
6. Ina device of the character described, in combination, a follower, a draw bar, a
draft yoke and a key, the key passing through the draw bar follower and yoke, the
follower being in sliding engagement with said key.
Wardly extended hood, a draft yoke and necting the draftyoke to. the draw bar, the
- rearwardly on rearward movement of the draw bar within the hood,- and a key con? said kev being adapted to force the follower draw bar, and tojslide withinsaid hood on 1 forward movement of the draw bar.
' 8. In a 'deviceof the character described, in combination, a draw bar, a yoke connected thereto, a follower in sliding engagement with the draw bar and voke, the saidyoke having extensions adapted to force the follower rearwardly on rearward'movement of the draw bar, and to slide within the same on forward movement of the draw bar.
, 9. In a draft rigging, the combination with a draft gear casing, of a hoodmounted 7.. In a device of the character described, in combination, a follower having a foron the forward end of the casing to move axially of the casing.
' 10. In a draft rigging forcars, a casi1.g for a draft gear, -a hood mounted on the front end of said casing and provided with elongated key-ways through its walls, a draw-bar the rear end of which is positioned .in said hood, a key-way through the rear end of said bar, and a key of width less than the length of said elongated key-ways of the hood.,
11. In a draft rigging for cars, the combination with a yoke, of a hood located on the forward end of the yoke and provided with elongated key-ways, a draw-bar the -the yoke, a draw-bar, and means for connecting said yoke and draw-bar to move the same in unison in bothbulf and draft and for holding the head in its confining relation to the yoke, said yoke and draw-bar being movable independently of the head under draft.
13. In a device of the character described, a tandem yoke having an intermediate thinlble, a draw-bar, a hood within which the front ends of said yoke arms are received, and means for connecting the parts, said means being so arranged that the yoke and draw-bar are movable in unison in both bufi and draft and the hood is movable with the draw-bar under buff only.
