spring, and a latch is employed to retain the lever when the window is fastened. The latch is inclosed within a box that is slotted for the catch ofthe lever to swing in.
In the drawing, Figure l shows Vthe lever in elevation and the boxes that fasten to the meeting-rails in section, and Fig. 2 is a plan with part of the lever'removed.
The box a is screwed to the meeting-rail 19,'
andreceives the hub cof the Alever d, and around this hub c is a Spring, o.,'that acts to throw the lever back out of the way when the windowfastening is opened. A downward projection from the hub c, passing into the quarter-circle slot 2, limits the movement of the lever cl. The box f is screwed to the meeting-rail g, and contains a slot, h, in which'the projection t' upon .the under side of the lever el moves as the lever is swung. This projection is made as a hook to catch beneath the plate forming the upper part of the box f so as to draw the sashes together. The 'latch lc, isplaced withinjthe box j'. It is mounted upon the fulcrum 3, Yand thrown up by the spring o. the projectionz'V and holds the lever d when turned to fasten the window. rlhe end of the latch k projects fromthe box f, so that it may be depressed tounlatch the, lever d and allow the spring vc to throw the same back in unfastening the window.
In this construction of sash-fastening the latches and springs are inclosed so that they are protected, and the boxes and lever can be made more or less ornamental.
I claim as my invention- Y The latch 7c within the box f, and projecting therefrom as Shown, in combination with the lever d, projection i, spring c", and box c, as and for the purposes set forth.
