FEF S CINNA POSSENTI, OF NEW YORK, 1\T. Y.
BURGLAR-ALARM.
Application filed November 30, 1914.
To all 'u1/tom t may concern Be it known that I, CINNA PossnNTi, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Burglar-Alarms; and l do hereby declaro the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame.
This invention relates to burglar alarms, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a burglar' alarm ofsimple construction which may be attached to any window or door of ordinary construction and which is set for automatic operation upon the opening of the window or door to which it is attached.
Another object of this invention is to provide a burglar alarm as specified which embodies a spring controlled trigger and a pair of guiding plates for holding cartridge strips, which carry cartridges, and are positioned in alinement with said spring controlled trigger for actuation upon the opening of the window or door to which the device'is attached.
llVith the foregoing and other objects in View this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which :a
Figure 1 is a Sectional view through the improved burglar alarm showing the same applied to a window. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the burglar' alarm, and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the supporting body portion of the burglar alarm which is constructed of a piece of sheet metal and has one end thereof rolled as is shown at 2 to form a handle for engaging the body portion 1 of the burglar alarm for attaching or removing it from a window or door. The plate of which the body portion 1 is formed is bent substantially equidistant of its ends as is shown at 3 to form substantially a V-shaped member and it has the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1915.
seriai No. 874,789.
rl`he upper side 6 of the il-shaped bodyy portion 1 has a pair of plates or straps 7 and 8 secured to the upper surface thereof at the forward end of the plate, which straps have their facing ends bent upwardly and spaced from the upper surface of the sides 6 for forming a retaining guideV for a cartridge carrying strip 9. The carrying strip 9 may be constructed of any suitable material and it has a plurality of explosive cartridges 10 secured to the upper surface thereof at spaced intervals along its length so that they may be fed at desired times forwardly upon the upper surface of the plate 6 and positioned for being struck by the trigger plate 11.
The trigger plate 11 is substantially triangular shaped and it has projections 12 and 13 formed upon the corners of its base, which projections are rolled upon themselves for forming pin encompassing sleeves. The pin encompassing sleeves receive in the bores thereof a pin 14, which is carried by the upturned sides 4 and 5 of the upper section 6 of the body portion 1. The pin 14 has a spring 15 coiled thereabout, one end of which spring is secured to the plate 6 as is shown at 16 and the other end of the spring is secured to the trigger plate 11 as is shown at 17, for causing the same t0 spring over and strike one of the cartridges carried bv the strip 9, when the trigger is relieved from restraint.
In the operation of the improved burglar alarm; the body 1 is placed between the meeting edges ofa pair of doors, between the meeting edges of a door and door frame, a pair of windows or between the lower edge of a window sash and the frame therefor as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. Vhen the plate or body 1 is inserted between any movable structures in a house construction as has hereinbefore been mentioned, the trigger plate 11 is moved as is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and held against the action of the spring 10, holding the spring under tension b v having the trigger plate engaged by the window or sash or by the door structure, so that imme Copies of this patent maybe obtained 'for diately` upon the opening `of themdoor or.
window, the spring l5 will be released from tension, Which will cause 'the trigger 11 't'o spring around 1n an are and strike Aone of the cartridges 10 which are carried by the guiding plates .and Stexploding the cartridge-and making a noise like the shot of a pistol for either' frightening the burglar away or notifying the persons Within the house when someone 1s endeayorrn'g .fto

- claimed.
What is claimed is t 'In a `burglar alarm, a substantially V- shaped Vbody portion constructed of a plate of resilient metal, one `end of Vone side of 'said V-shaped v4body portion being curved fornita handle; a pair of straps secured to the outer surface .of the other side of said 25 said pin and lhaving vrone -end secured Mto said hammer, the 'other end of lsaid spring being 'secured to Ithe Vshaped body portion fon'the 'operation of said 'hammer `causing it ito iy over and strike said cartridge upon release g "In testimony whereof aiiiX 'my signature in presence of vtwo Witnesses.
