Application filed March 17, 1915. Serial No. 15,100.
To @ZZ whom t may concern: Y
Be it known that I, FEDER T. PEDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vienna, in the county of Cla-rk and State ot South lJakota, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Toy Pistols; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to spring toy pistols for propelling peas or other small projectiles; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side View of a pistol constructed according to this invention, and showing it discharged. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view of the pistol with one half of its body portion removed, and showing the plunger retracted.
The body portion of the pistol is formed of two similar halves 2 and 3 having a longitudinal joint down the center of the pistol. These two halves are alike, except that one of them, only, has a trigger guard 13 formed on or secured to it, and that they are formed right and left. These halves are formed of light metal, or any other suitable material.
The pistol has a barrel fi at its front end, a spring chamber 5 at its rear end, a guide 6 at and below the level of the rear end of the barrel, aslot or opening 'i' at its top between the barrel and the spring chamber, and a slot or opening 8 between the rear end of the guide 6 and the spring chamber. All of these parts are in halves, corresponding to the respective h alves 2 and 3 oi' the body portion. The pistol has a suitable handle i0 below the spring chamber, also formed in halves, and the halves are secured together by rivets l1.
A plunger or piston l2 is loosely slidable in the barrel, and it has a block 14 at its rear end which slides in the slot 7 at the top of the pistol and projects a little above its top. This block slides in contact with the guide 6, and its bottoni portion is free to enter the slot 8 when retracted and pushed downwardly.
A. helical coiled spring l-is arranged in the spring chamber and abuts against .its rear end. "The Jiront end portionof the spring l5 engages with a projection 16 on the block le. The trigger 17' is pivoted in the slot 8 on a pin 18, and it has a t'rip camA or projection 2Q at its upper part.
The plunger 1s retracted against the pressure of the spring by the hand of the operator, the projecting part or' the block being pushed back. When the block arrives at the rear end of its travel the downward pressure of the fingers forces the block into engagen'ient with the slot 8, andthe front bottom corner of the block vis held by the shoulder 2l at the rear endI of the guide. The
In a toy pistol, a body portion formed ofi two similar halves secured together and having a central longitudinal joint, said body portion having a barrel at its front end, a spring chamber at its rear end, and a rectangular Uuideway open at its top side and arranged between the barrel and spring chamber and having a slot and a shoulder at its lower part; a plunger' slidable in a barrel and having a rectangular block atits rear end which slides in the said guideway and projects at the top thereof and engages with the said slot and shoulder when retracted and pressed. downwardly, a spring arranged in the spring chamber and bearing against the said block, and a trigger pivoted in the said slot and adapted to release the blockfrom the said shoulder.
in testimony whereof l have aiiixed my vsignature in the presence of two witnesses.
PEDER T. PEDERSON.
