DEIACHABLE HEEL. l APPLICATION FILED IUNE I2, vI9Iy5.
LIIIAW, Y' l Patented 0@I19,1915.
nnfraonannn nenn Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented tlct., 19, 1915i Application led 3' une 12, 1915. Serial No. 33,7437.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, DAVID 1Weiss, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Heels; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
rlhis invention relates to detachable heels for boots or shoes, and one ot the principal objects of the invention is to provide simple means `t'or securing a 'detachable heel to a shoe and to provide means whereby the heel may be readily detached' from the shoe so that the heels may be interchanged to pre- `vent wearing away upon one side, or to even' up the heel.
Another object oi the invention is to provide a detachable heel havingl a fastening device connected thereto which can be moved into locking or unlocking position to either hold the heel firmly to the shoe or to permit the saine to be detached there-Y from.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated inthe accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top plan vien7 oic a detachable heel made in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view ot' the heel seat portion ot a sole, llig. 3 is a longitudinal section through a heel and a por tion et the sole, and Fig. 1l is a sectional view taken on the line lc-Jl ot llig. 3 with the heel shown vattached to the sole.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a shoe sole and connected to the heel portion 2 of the sole is a plate 3, said plate being subsaantially the shape oit the heel` seat, but considerably smaller, said plate being attached by rneans of suitable tastenine's t and provided with a transverse slot or opening 5. Tlhe plate 3 is prof vided with a slightly upturned outer edge 6 disconnected from the heel seat. At the breast portion of the plate 3 is a leather strip l having a notch 8 thereinat a central point, said strip 7 being connected by fasteners 9 to the heel seat portion of the sole.
The shoe lieell@ may be made of rubber or or the body portion. may be made of leather and the top lift 11 may bey of rubber. i y
Secured to the heel seat is a 'plate 12, slightly larger than the plate 3 and having a marginal flange 13 extending inward from the edge of the plate 12 to form a guide for the outer edge 6 of the plate 3. The plate l2 is secured tothe heel seat by mea-ns. of y downturned handle or linger hold 21.
The heel can be quickly attached to the sole by sliding the heel forwardly to engage the outer edge 6 of the plate 3 under the iiange 13, after the lock has been turned so that the iF-head lies across the recess 19 and the slots 20 and 5. `When the handle portion 21 of the lock is turned to one side or the other, the 'lm-head 18 engages the slots 5 and 2O in the plates 3 and 12 to `hold the heel firmly in place on the shoe. l From the' foregoing it will be obvious that a detachable heel made in accordance with this invention can be quickly detached from a shoe and can be 'transposed with the heel ot the other shoe to prevent wearing oli' atthe sides or at least to even up the heels. lt will be apparent also that a new heel made in accordance with this invention can be readily connected to a shoe after one has been worn out.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing troni the spirit and scope oit the invention as defined in the claims.
lvl-Vhat is claimed is 1. t detachable -heel construction coinprising aplate connected to the heel seat portion oit a sole, said plate having a slot therein extending transverselyyoit saidA plate, a detachable iheel section, a plate connected to said detachable heel, the plate having a marginal llange to receive the first named.
plate, said second named plate having a slot, said detachable heel having a recess in alinement with the slot, land a pivoted lock having a ll"head to engage said slot when,
of the sole, and having a slot therein, a detachable section, a plate connected to said detachable heel and having a recess alinng with the slot in the rst named plate, said. plates adapted to engage one with the other,
and a pivoted lock having a T-head to en- 1o gage the recess and slot in the two plates-to hold them locked together.
In testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
