Description

T. WELCH.
TRUSS.
APPLICATION FILED APR.2I, IsIo.
Patented- 0`@I.19,1915.
G/a/l i citizen `of the United States, residing atY `the ruptured Vrens THOMAS WELCI-VI, OF BRIDGEPORT, HIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM V.
. CAMPBELL, 0F BRIDGEPORT, OHO. f
TRUSS.
To all whom zt'mag/ concern:
Be 1t known that l., THOMAS VELGH, a
Bridgeport, in the county of Belmont and State of Chio, have invented certain new and useful improvements `in Trus'ses, of which thefollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to an'improvement in trusses, and the object is to providea pad which can be applied to the ruptured part, and which will have .the proper effect upon part without causing any in.- convenience to the wearer.
A Vfurther objectis in means whereby the truss can suit the wearer.
The invention consists' further in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be morefully described hereinafter, and po-inted out in the claim. n v .Y
in the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a view in elevation, Fig is a detail, sectional view through the pad, and Fig. 3. is a the provision of be adjusted to detail view showing the adjustment between A the rear pad and the wire which is received around the body. A
A, represents the wire orbody portion of the truss, which isadapted topass overy the point of the hip; .and B, isthe'spiral coneshaped pad which is formed from the body or-wireA. The end of the wire projects downwardly or vertically'ffrom the center of the cone as at 1, and has a loop at the end thereof. Connected to the oppo site end ofthe wire A is' a loop or Vrear pad 3 which is provided with the parallel members 4, which are connected by a ferrule 5, throughv which the wire A passes.` The thumb-screw 6 is provided for connecting Copies of this patent maybe obtained for Specfrcation of Letters Patent. y

to the loop member 3 is a strap or band 8, which is pro-vided with a hook y9, which hook isadapted to engage the loop ,2 in the projection 1, whereby the truss can be connected to the wearer after the proper adjustment has been obtained by the thumb-screw upon the wire A. vAll of the strain which is used in securing the truss upon the body is received by the loop member 3, and the projection 1 of thepad B. The projection 1 relieves to a great extent the strain upon the .pad B, lwhich would cause it to become unbearable to the wearer, and which at the same time insures the pad being held upon the ruptured part. f
From'the foregoing, it willbe seen that have provided a very simple construction of truss which will produce the results desired, and the cone-shaped formation of the pad B will allow the pad to come in` contact with the ruptured part. the truss Ywith a single pad, it is evidentthat a similar pad could be applied or connected to the wire A, which would allow another pad to be brought around the body, and in position upon the ruptured part.
Having fully described my invention, desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l A truss comprising an arched wire terminating in a spiral'co'ne-shaped pad at one end, and having a connected with its other end, the coneand the wire forming it extending back approxi mately through the axial center of the cone flat rear pad adjustably TWhile have only sho-wn f and terminating in a .loop, and a strap or band connected with the rear pad and with said loop.
`Intestimony whereof I anix my signature, in vthe presence of two witnesses.
