J.. E. PARSONS.
Waist Belt Clamp. No. 238,247. Patented March 1, I881.
[31 weigh z" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN E. PARSONS, OFBOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
.WAIST-BELT CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 238,247, dated March 1, 1881.
- Application filed January 8,1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. PARSONS, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waist-Belts, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a cheap, simple, convenient, and durable adjusting device for regulating the size of a policemans, militia, or other waist-belt, so the same shall fit the body of the wearer with ease, comfort, and precision at all times, being instantly adjusted to the slightest degree, or so as to vary the size minutely, and thus avoid or overcome the objections now existing in Waist-belts in general use, or as heretofore constructed, wherein a common buckle is employed to regulate the size thereof, by which means very frequently the belt is either too small or too large, as the necessary space intervening between the buckle-tongue holes formed in the adjusting end of the belt prevents a minute adjustment of the same; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of an adjustable clamping device with the waistbelt, as hereinafter more fully described and set forth.-
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a Waist-belt having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of my invention disconnected from the belt. Fig. 3
- represents a longitudinal section of a portion of the belt with clamping device in position as connected therewith.
A represents a waist-belt provided with the fastening devices B, ot'usual construction and 0 represents aflat bearing-plate provided with inwardly bent or projectingportions E E, which nearly inclose the belt-strap end and retain the same therein by means of points F, which are bent so as to project inwardly and pierce the surface of the belt-strap, when the portions E E are brought into contact therewith by pressure after the end of the belt-strap has been inserted between the said bearing-plate O and the portions E E, so as to connect the same, as shown in Fig. 3. The opposite end portion of the said bearing-plate U is provided with ears H H, between which is pivoted the eccentric-bar L, having an operating-handle, P, by which the said eccentric-bar may be par tially rotated, so as to clamp the main or body return portion of the belt-straps A and its end portion between said bearing-plate O and the eccentric bar L, as shown in Fig. 3.
It will be seen that when the belt is clasped in front by the fastening B, if the flat handle P be drawn outwardly, the eccentric bar is withdrawn from contact with the main or body portion of the belt, so as to permit the clamped portion to slide in either direction beneath the eccentric-bar until the exact size desired for comfort and ease is reached, when it is instantly clamped by depressing the handle, as above described, so as to clamp the belt therein firmly.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. The waist-belt clamp consisting of the bearing-plate G, having attaching portions E E, provided with points F, and ears H H, provided with the eccentric bar L, having an opcrating-handle, P, constructed and arranged 4 to operate in adjusting a waist-belt substantially in the manner described, as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In combination with the waist-belt A, the clamping device (J, having portions E E, provided with attaching-points F, and ears H H, having pivoted therein the eccentric bar L, provided with the actuating-handle P, constructed and arranged substantially in the manner described, as and for the puirposes set forth.
1 JOHN E. PARSONS.
