To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ABRAHAM RIVERA, a citizen of the Republic of Salvador, and a resident of Sonsonate, in the Republic of El Salvador, Central America, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Collapsible and Portable Toilet-Seat Covers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in toilet seat covers, and. contemplates as a principal object the provision of an auxiliary sanitary cover which may be used in connection with toilet seats of ordinary and of various special construction, the auxiliary seat or cover-being so constructed that it may readily be folded for transportation and when so folded will occupy a minimum amount of space so that it may readily be carried in a grip or satchel.

A further object of the invention is to provide a seat cover of the class described in the nature of a plurality of hingedly connected sections or segments, the segments forming the rear portion of the cover being provided with a latching means whereby the segments will be maintained in relatively rigid position when the cover is in use, so that collapse of the cover will be prevented.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described which will be extremely simple, durable, eflicient in operation, and inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in view which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which like characters of reference indicate likeparts throughout the several figures, of which Figure 1 represents a plan view of a seat cover constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 represents a View in section taken on the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 3 represents a view in section taken on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 represents a viewin section taken on the plane indicated by the line of Fig.1. Fig. 5 represents a perspectlve view of the device in folded or collapsed position.

Referring more particularly to the drawlng, it will be noted that the seat cover consists of the forward or front segments 5 and 6 and the rear segments 7 and 8. When the seat cover is extended and is in operat1ve position as indicated in Fig. 1, it will be noted that it is substantially of the form of an ordinary closet seat.

The front segments 5 and 6 are connected together along their adjacent abutting edges by means of a double leaf hinge 9. The leaves of the latter, it will,be noted, by reference to Fig. 3, are countersunk in the ad- ]acent abutting ends of the segments 5 and 6, so that when the seat cover is in extended position, these ends will abut tightly one against the other so as to provide a close joint. The segments 5 and 7 constituting one half of the seat cover, and the segments 6 and 8 constituting the other half, are respectively connected together by means of the hinges 10. By referring to Fig. 2 it will be seen that the leaves of the hinges 10 are countersunk in the under faces of the segments, rather than in the end faces thereof, as is the case with hinge 9. In this manner the adjacent edges of segments 5 and 7 and 6 and 8 respectively may abut and bear against each other when the seat cover is extended, and will be prevented from collapsing downwardly.

The adjacent edges of the segments 7 and 8 are not hingedly connected together, but are adapted to be engaged together when the device is in extended position through the medium of a latching mechanism. This mechanism includes a rigid bar of metal 11 ter is hxtended,jand will prevent the seat ,from collapsing along its longitudinal axis "or diameter.

The latch is provided adjacent its enlarge 5' ment or head with an outwardly extending I spur or thumb hold 17 by means of which said latch may readily beengaged for withdrawing it from the recess. in segment 8 device along its transverse axis when in extended position, and the latch 11 will pre-' vent collapse of the device along its longitudinal axis, and will furthermore connect the rear segments of the coverclosely together so as to providea tight and compact joint between them.

\Vhen not in use the latch may be disconnected from segment 8 and the device may be folded into the position shown in Fig. 5 so as to occupy but a small space. When so folded the device may be readily carried about in a suitcase or traveling bag.

Although I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I may desire to make such changes in the. construction, combination, and arrangement of parts thereof, as'do not'depart from the spirit of arsaeee i the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

It will be noted that I have provided a hygienic portable toilet seat.

verse axis of the device, said last hinges being secured tothe under faces of the forward and rear segments, and a latch pivoted within a recess in the rear edge of one of the rear segments and provided with a head,

and rear segments hingedly connected together along lines to one side of the transverse axis of the cover, the forward segments of the device being hingedly connected together, and a latch pivotally connected to one of the rear segments and being adapted to detachably engage the opposite rear segment for bracing the cover against collapse along its ,longitudinal axis.
