T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IABELLA POINDEXTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prineville, in the county of Crook and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Pans; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to bed pans, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a bed pan constructed of rubber, having an inflatable cushioning seat constructed of soft rubber, and to form an outlet spout upon the bed pan to permit of the emptying of the same.

Another object of this invention is to provide a flexible rubber covering for the bed pan, which is secured to the upper surface of the reduced forward end of the body of the pan.

With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangementof parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the ac companying drawings and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the bed pan, Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1, andFig. 3 is across secti'onal view on the line 33 of Fig. 1.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the bed pan as an entirety, which is constructed entirely of rubber. The bed pan 1 has a base 2, which is formed of hard rubber, and upstanding sides 3,

which are constructed of soft flexible rub-' ber. The upstanding sides 3 are formed of outer and inner walls 4; and 5 respectively, which are connected for forming an air space 6 therein, which air space may be filled with air, through the medium of any ordinary inflating valve 7, for providing a cushion seat for the person using the pan. The reduced forward end 8 of the bed pan is also provided with an air space and is formed by the lengthening of the outer wall A, at the front end of the bed pan, which is reduced in width with respect to the seat .the bed pan body 1 and has communication with the recess 9, to permit of the emptying of the pan. The size of the air space 6 at the point of communication between the spout 10 and the recess 9 is constricted, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.

A plugll is inserted in the outer end of the spout 10 and forms a closure therefor. The plug 11 may be constructed in any practical manner, as is shown in drawings as having a screw threaded inserting section 12 which extends into the mouth of the tube 10, and a flange or disk 13 formed upon the outer end of the inserting plug and engaging the outer surface of the ends of the tube 10. An ear 14=is formed upon the outer surface of the disk 13 to facilitate the removal of the inserting plug or section 12 from the interior of the tube 10. This inserting section is shown as provided with external screw threads, for forming a fluid tight closure for the ends of the spout 10.

A bed pan constructed of rubber having a rigid bottom and upstanding flexible sides, said sides being constructed of connected inner and outer spaced walls for leaving an air space therebetween for the purpose of infiating'the sides of the bed pan, an outlet spout formed upon said bed pan and communicating with the interior thereof, a plug inserted in the outer end of said outlet spout for forming a closure therefor, a cover baring one end secured to the upper surface of said bed pan, and being constructed of flexible material.
