The base of the device, here in the form of a collar 1, and the pressure arm 2 are preferably formed from resilient sheet I 7 metal stamped or otherwise suitably formed into a shape substantially as shown, The

size of the collar will be determined by the SiZe of the article such as a pen or pencil on which the clip is to be fitted and used. The pressure arm 2 is Vmade of sufficient length and strength to afiord the necessary pressure for holding the clip and pen or pencil in position in the pocket in the manner in which such devices are commonly used. The clip is attached to a pen or pencil by simply sliding the resilient collar 1 on to the pen or pencil in the usual manner. The clip and pen or pencil may be secured to the garment either by forcing the edge of the pocket or other portion of the garment beneath the bearing member 3 in the usual manner or by retracting the pressure arm and the bearing member by means of the 'lever 4; The latter method is preferred as it results in less Wear on the garment. The pen or pencil and clip may be detached from the; garment by simply pulling it off as is. commonly, done with ordinary clips or by retracting the pressure arm and bearing member by the lever A. The latter is the preferred method because of the less wear which results on the garment. By this construction it is in fact possible to provide such a strong pressure of the arm and such a character of gripping of the bearing member 3 as to prevent the device from slippingofl or being pulled ofi from the gar 'ment except byintentional operation of the lever 4.
